The Game's (The Documentary) new CD is really good and I totally recommend it to anyone who likes rap. Anyone else heard this CD? I thought it was really good, first few songs (first 6-7) are really good songs.

I don't think he's all that. He's okay, but that's it. His rhymes just aren't that great. I'll wait till I hear more to make a judgement. But I don't think he's very good.

You probably did'nt even hear all of Young Buck's "Straight outta Ca$hville". Sometimes it not about who has the best flows. It's who has the dirtyest rhymes and beats: Young Buck, TI, Bun B (UGK), Scarface, and Luda, just to name a few!

you must be from the south huh? See i'm from the east coast... when i hear buck rhyme half of it sounds like garbage to me. I have Straight Outta Cashville on my computer, he's obviously gunna have some crazy beats, he's on G-Unit so he gets Dre to produce his shit. But his lyrics are trash.... Like if you listen to Banks's album you can atleast hear some quality metafors and punchlines, buck doesnt spit nothing clever

Actually I'm from the west coast. Lloyd Banks album is hot too. And you're right, Banks does have punch lines. But I can't wait for Tony Yayo to drop his. I listen to all sides of rap/hip hop. But you have to admit the South got the rap game on lock right now. The east coast had their time, and so did the west, but now it's the south's time to shine. They got the tightest shit out right now. That's why I mentioned those artist.

its not about not listening to an artist... but there are regional differences in the type of rap. East coast is more concentrated on lyrics and grimey sampled beats, west coast is more funk type beats and ok lyrics, and south is club bangers or big bass beats with the worst lyrics.
i jus said he must be from the south cause the rappers he named were all from the south.
I like hearin dirty south shit in the club or in my car... but thats it. You cant put some headphones on an listen to that shit cause theres no substance in the lyrics. Theres always exceptions tho... like scarface
The south has the clubs on lock... cause they got the girls shakin their asses. Thats why they're hot right now

The south has the clubs on lock... cause they got the girls shakin their asses. Thats why they're hot right nowI agree with most of what you said except any type of music can get girls shaking there asses. And it is not exactly the east(virginia is on the east coast but is considered south) with lyrics(clipse?), it is the northeast (my personal opinion). Also No I am not bashing you or anybody but, some of us music listeners don't listen to much if any lyrics. we just listen to the beats. Some of us make beats and some of us make tracks. A well produced album is going to have a better effect on listeners than the same album being produced ok. Some people cant hear the quality and some people can. that is why I buy many albums from different coast and genres because I like to up my ante a little bit by not only teaching others how they should fix or do something, but also how it should sound. (I produce part-time) Which is why dr. dre is always going to have multi platinum artist. No he is not one of my favorites but Im sure he knows that it doesn't matter who you are or which side you are from, you just cant rhyme any type of way on tracks. which is way some artist fail because they don't have the right beats or have the right producer (they could sound just to generic). You would be surprised at how many people don't know that(or care to know) Would we have missy elliot without timbaland? or vice verse? neptunes with rump shaker?(wreckx n effect)
p.s. I also wanted to say who needs to spit clever when you have the perfect beats matching you style? Lil jon doesn't even need to rhyme to go plat. I like all raps ( yeah more for me!) But I can see why jada kiss said some use beats to help them rap and others help the beats. sometimes I get tired of those boom...clap...boom...clap... or boom..tick..clap..tick..boom..tick..clap..tick and and so on beats.

Or only artist on any label for any matter. Lil jon track(8) was produced by lil jon
tracks 12 and 13 (stomp and takin hits) were produced by Triple Six (trademarked crunk/buck creators from memphis tenn). people just dont and wont understand that music is an art. Some people are going to understand (feel) and some people wont. Some are going to say that is the ugliest piece of crap and some are going to say this is brilliant. And are you trying to say that ludacris can't embarass alot of eastern/northern rappers? He is from the south. Like outkast
p.s. I also wanted to say that hip-hop is pop-rap(my personal opinion) it kinda shouldnt be in the same category but, like the different kinds of rock(punk, alternative, hard, metal, soft, hip/rap-linkin park etc.) it is still going to be considered rap.

lol Drew everything you said is obvious
But Clipse is not considered south... Va rappers are considered east coast. And their rhymes have always bin New York style, i dont know anybody who considers Va rappers south, never even heard of that.
obviously a well produced album is gunna sound better than an ok produced one
obviously 1 producer doesnt produce a whole rappers album... but if you're on Aftermath/G-Unit then you'll have more Dre beats than any other producer. And he oversees the entire production of the album, so you can be sure the beats will be tight
obviously you wouldnt hear of some artists if they didnt have good production... nobody would buy their shit if the beats were garbage. Why do you think Nas albums like Nastradamus flopped? His lyrics were on point, but the production was off.
Record sales dont make a good rapper, so what if Lil' Jon goes platinum. Does that mean he's a good rapper? Hell no. Vanilla Ice sold alot of records does that mean his music was that great? Hell no. All it means is they are MARKETABLE, the South is getting alot of record sales. You know why? Not because their music is that great, cause they're making straight club bangers that girls can shake their ass too. Who buys the most music? young/teenage girls... what are they gunna buy? They're gunna buy what they dance to at the club. It's as simple as that.
And i'm not saying you cant listen to all that south shit, but it belongs in your car stereo or in the club. You cant pop your headphones on and enjoy it, good rappers will have shit that you can always listen to. They have good lyrics and good production, you can listen with headphones and think "daaaamn, that line was crazy" or listen on your car stereo and think "daaaamn, this beat is hot!"
That shows that the standards of good music are goin down, cause now you dont even need the lyrics you just need a hot beat and someone yellin "yeeeeeeeah" over it to sell records LOL a little exagerated but thats the truth
I already said there's exceptions to everything... Obviously there are some south rappers that are good at rhyming, like Scarface. We were just talking about the majority tho
and btw... there would be no Biggie and no Mase without Puffy, not the other way around. Puffy was already big in the record industry before he put Biggie on.

I never said lil jon could rap. I sai he doesnt have too rap. And being from the south myself, of course I am going to defend it. But I think you all mis understood what my point was. It was simply put, "one mans trash is another mans treasure." And who still listens to headphones? with the exception of teens and a few adults.... You can listen to anything you like on headphones weither it be classical or video game music. You don't need to listen to words or a damn beat to enjoy a damn song. And clipse was my example of eastcoasters who only got famous by the neptunes. And virginia is on the eastcoast but it historicaly geographicaly still south. Go check your history books. and exposure is what a producer/executive/artist needs to make it in the industry. P diddy most likely would not be in the position he is in now with biggy or mase. He would still be big, but It would not have been the same. I knew that pdiddy was already famous. He did jodeci.
An artist can use any beat they want to on an album. Dre knows that. He does have over all say on what can and cannot be on an album. Better said, if he didn't think it was any good it would not be on there. So like any good producer/executive/artist would if you are trying to appeal to southern listeners, is get the best in the business. Look at chingy(example- no he isnt south) I know alot of people who says he can't rap but he still is going to sell many records. Look at Def Jam south and Bad boy south. the south is a force to be reckoned with. even if people like it or not. Even they had to grab some that money that was going around down here. "marketing" talent. no need to do something your not comfortable doing. You could "pop out" and be another producer/executive/artist trying to reinvent themselves. Which is nothing wrong with that. people always have something to say about people they dont like so I will give a quote from DJ Paul, "people always trying to down us but three six mafia gone keep it gangsta fo all you niggaz who went pop. We gone keep it gangsta. We gone make another one, fo niggaz who want to buy another one." (keepin it crunk/buck/gangsta for 12 years and have multi-plat artist and every album of their has gone plat), Which is not only for just them but it applies to all music. As long as people buy it the artist are going to keep making them. oh yeah eminem is the best rapper out of all the aftermath/shady/g-unit records...but 50 still sold more than he did on his latest album. Hmmmm. Some people care about rhymes and some people don't. and yes everything I said was obvious. it was for the people who don't know or seen this whole thread going one sided. I remember when outkast won that album of the year award about 8 or 9 years ago. and people booed. even the annoucer wasnt happy. they said that it wasn't real music and that they wern't real rappers. But look now. Da Souf is inda house. ( although I like all music. not country) I had to rep my side bcause you were hating.
one more thing. people fear change. people fear what they dont understand. people fear the truth. people fear what they can't see. if you can't stand to see the truth then close your eyes.

one more thing. people fear change. people fear what they dont understand. people fear the truth. people fear what they can't see. if you can't stand to see the truth then close your eyes.

I also could say that you can barely understand reggae music. it sells like crazy. Where does that belong? In someone club? isnt that where all music should all so be played. what about r&b? where does that go? In my bedroom making love? So bias......

Those are different types of music they're judged on a different scale. Reggae isnt about clever rhymes and punchlines like rap, its about flow. They're not rapping, they're singing... their words jus gotta flow right so it sounds good over the beats...
I'm not sayin anythin belongs jus in one place, my point was most rap from the south has garbage lyrics that barely rhyme, but it bumps hard an you can dance to it. So its not somethin you would enjoy listenin to with headphones on cause you'd hear the lyrics lol But i do like bumpin that shit in the car or hearin it at the club cause the beats hit hard. So i'm sayin its more for the club or the car where you dont listen to the lyrics as much. It belongs there.
and you keep mentioning record sales like it has something to do with good music... like i said it doesnt matter how many records artists sell, i dont give a shit about that. Good rap, you can listen to anywhere, it has solid lyrics and solid beats. Cause an album has only one of those and it goes platinum, doesnt mean its a good album. It means it was marketed right, and to the right people (aka girls). Guys get bootlegs, or burn most of their music, girls actually go to the store and buy all the shit they like.
Saying Eminem puts out the best rhymes on Aftermath/G-Unit is EXTREMELY DEBATABLE. I dont think he has the best rhymes, his shit is retarded now. Most people that are into good lyrics in rap songs, would prolly think Banks has more clever shit than Em. And 50 sold more cause of the same reason as the south artists: MARKETING. I used to listen to 50 since 5 years before he got famous, i had Power of the Dollar, Guess Who's Back, all that shit years before Get Rich or Die Trying. What did he have to do to sell records? GET PROMOTION. He signed with Shady, automatically he got recognition, people finally knew about him. Now all he had to do to sell so many records is, drum roll, get the girls to like his shit. He had to switch his style a bit to sell. So he started singing on his hooks, making songs like 21 questions, an getting alotta spins on the radio and on MTV. The girls started shaking their asses to that shit in the club and bingo record sales like a muthafucka... my theory works again. But 50 had the trifecta, not only did he have shit for the girls, he had controversy, and he still kept aright lyrics an hood appeal, so guys that wouldnt buy Eminem records bought 50s shit. Thats why he sold so much
and like i said before, i'm not sayin all of the south is wack at rhyming... there are exceptions to everything. The south has alotta good rappers with good lyrics, but they have more shitty ones who sell more records so they overshadow the good ones. And i'm still sayin good music is music with good lyrics AND good beats... you cant leave one out and still have good music. If you dont listen to the lyrics why dont you just listen to instrumentals? Fuck rappers, you dont need them... if you dont listen to the lyrics, just listen to the producers.

Everyone has a different opinon on what makes a good song or good music. Someones opinion cannot be wrong. Marketing only puts the name of the album out there, the sells come from good reviews and word of mouth. Marketing does not automatically mean good sells

I understand what you are saying but, man do you know who hard it is to get instrumentals? Im not talking about radio ones...the album ones. But dude, you keep generalization southern music by saying it belongs in clubs like girls only should have long hair. I am feeling what you are saying man about your view/opinion. And I did buy the new 50 cent today online. So (obviously) I havent heard it yet so I cant say if it is good or not. Yes some of the irv gotti and ja rule beef(?) did help it out a little bit, but in that sense shouldn't it have helped ja rule also? Anyway I do listen to east rappers and I do know what you mean by ~clever~ and ~punch~ like lines. I agree with that and all. but in saying that what happens when a new york style rapper that is good and has good beats, doesn't make it? It doenst mean he/she wasn't any good. I guess you could say he/she was not marketable at that point in time? Yes. overshadowing does play alot in success sometimes. And like voting, or buying a album, album sales have nothing to do with how good you are. Just how popular you are to some degree.

True with other music... but in hip hop, good lyrics are usually generally accepted as good lyrics (Not always, but usually). Nobodies gunna listen to Illmatic and say the lyrics were garbage
Marketing doesnt guarentee sells, but good quality music doesnt guarentee sells either. And pick out any artist who is in the Top 3 for radio spins at any time and i can almost guarentee their albums are going platinum. As long as their shit is listenable and they have good marketing, they get heard the most and seen the most on MTV so people buy it the most.

LOL
You keep ignoring what i've said about 4 times in this thread... there ARE good lyrics in the south, but the MAJORITY is CRUNK music that is designed for the CLUB

Every artist knows that no matter what type or style of music they are into...they need at least one track to be popular on the radio. Nas is a good lyracists, and his latest album wasn't too popular compared toothers, does that make him trash now?

You didn't say majority last time and we both know that crunk music isn't just south music. you know.Dmx-get it on the floor etc. is an exception. it crunk but not south. and I rest my fingertips. and i know you said there are good lyrics in the south.i was just elaborating.:sunglasse

thats exactly what i've bin saying.... record sales dont judge whether an artist is good or not.

That statement prooves both sides. Record sales don't judge a good artist and neither does marketing. Some say it's popularity, some say it's style etc...
