stereo static

i recently had my tranny rebuilt and intake gaskets replaced.now when the radio is on i get some static sound. its not unbearable but i wonder if it is related to the recent mechanical work, because i didn't notice it before.could the mechanic have crossed wires with something????

Does the static increase or decrease with the RPM's of the engine? Does it sound like a whinning noise or static like a radio that is not tuned into a radio station? Sometimes you can pick up engine noise through the radio which is usually related to the spark plug wires. If the mechanic moved a plug wire you may get a noise. Just a thought!

the static seem's to stay the same thru rpm's.the static is like a whinning noise ,its hard to notice with music but noticible during talking.do you think a misaligned plug wire would cause it?

It's possible or when the repairs where made the mechanic may have cut into the insulator cover of a plug wire. I have had this happen when I installed a high powered stereo in my other cars that had old plug wires as well as seeing it when wire was arcing if there was a weak point along a wire. You can sometimes see an arcing wire if you start the car on a dark night if you open the hood and it is dark enough, you might see a blue spark in the area of the wires, it may be tough to see on the Montana because of the back three wires. you can't even see them to change.
