Anyone here own a Interceptor?

Heres my story. I have been an avid sportbike rider for the past 10 years or so. I love touring on sportbikes and I have done many trips from east Tn. to Myrtle beach, and even a round trip to the Outer Banks (about 1500 miles in 4 days) and a 600 mile trip to Panama City in 1 day on a 600 CBR. Not exactly the bike of choice for touring but I love this bike. Well I have just married and she loves to ride with me, compounding the problem of backaches, less power, and certain body parts being squashed whenever I brake. She is a very good passenger and does try to keep from pushing into me on braking but it's hard on her to hold her weight off me with just her fingertips on the tank. I have decided to buy a bigger sportbike with more of a balance between sport and comfort(for those long trips we take almost every weekend). I love the looks of the Interceptor(that is the 2002 model year and up). Everything I have read about them is very good with the exception of the power being down a bit compared to other sport tourers, but much more power than my present 600.

I have found a 2003 model(non abs) at a Honda dealer 80 miles away that is still new(never sold) for 8300 and I have pretty much decided to buy it. If anyone with experience in owning this bike would like to offer any advice I'm all ears.
I just want to make sure there is no big complaints on this bike before I make the commitment. I know the price is bit high but given how easy it is to replace odometers and hide wreckage, the assurance of a new bike is worth the extra thousand I would save.

Well, like you said, that asking price is a bit high, but the Interceptor (VFR800) is a nice bike. My dad had a 2k2, which was the first generation (IIRC) to have the VTEC. It was a nice bike. I can't help you in terms of rating the passenger seat, since it's one bike that I only rode as pilot. The power is nice... not too much, but not weak either. You can feel the VTEC kick in at 7000, as I recall. It did have a flat spot before that, but it wasn't TOO bad. As for the sport end, it is a little heavy for the hard-core twisties. You have to make sure you look ALL the way through the turn (which you are supposed to do anyway) or you can lose your line. The seating is still fairly forward for a tourer, so don't expect it to be anything like a goldwing. ;) I would NOT recommend getting clip-on raisers. It makes the seating position uncomfortable on your wrists. Oh, and maintenance is difficult due to all the plastic, but that's a given on any sportbike, really. Overall, it was a nice sporty tourer, IMHO. We only got rid of it because my dad couldn't handle the sporty part anymore at the age of 57.

my only experience with the VFR was when he overtook me on the outside of a tight right hand hairpin at Eastern Creek raceway (sydney aus). bastard

aussie i do agree like i said earlier in this thread ur dome is ur life the rest can be bandaged stiched or put in a cast, ive dropped my helmet off my seat cause i was dumb enough to let it sit thier while my bike was warming up, took it in for inspection 2 days later got it back cleaned polished and inspected free of charge.granted if it were bad i would have been out over 800 bucks. ive gone down a couple of times some bad some not, infact i went down this past thursday on a hit and run by a car, even though my head never touched i still knew it was safe. so i would say instead of buying a slip on exhaust wait a couple months for it a put the $$ toward a nice helmet. beside when you go in a bar chicks dig sick a55 helmets.

Well I bought my Interceptor yesterday, I'm going back to pick it up tomorrow(supposed to be 62 and sunny) It's about 110 miles through the mountains so it's a perfect break in ride!

well I LOVE this bike! Got to ride about 110 miles Tuesday and got to take it out and play with it some today to check it out on familiar roads. It has decent power...nothing like an open class bike, seems a bit on par with a new 600cc sportbike. It does have a bit of get up when the V-TEC hits. But it has great torque, it's comfy and sporty and it has the best sound this side of a Ducati.(they removed some of the baffle from the stock exhaust) and most important, I have fun riding it. Hurry up Spring.

Thanks for checking back in! Hope to hear more from you when the NICE weather hits... PA sounds like it (might) get pounded with 4+ inches of snow in the next few days, so I don't expect to be riding any time soon. :(
