My Chevy Lumina was rear ended. It was driveable, but the next morning it wouldn't start. Not even turning over; just the clicking noise of the starter. Someone mentioned that there was a emergency fuel cut off in the trunk. (similar to a toggle that has to be clipped back on) I've pulled out the carpet, spare tire and can not find the "switch". Any other ideas of exactly where it is? Is it different on 99 than on 97???

Mighta pinched a pos. wire somewheres back there, causing it to wear out the battery. Does the batt have a good charge to it?

I know the battery isn't over 2 months old. Didn't look like that much damage, but I had thought about maybe it wiggles a wire loose. I'll check on the pos. wire. Had you ever heard of the emergency fuel cut off switch, though??

It's weird that the car WAS driveable after the accident, but that the next morning (roughly 16 hrs after the accident) just a clicking noise. That makes me think that the car battery had a enough "juice" to get it approx 5-6 miles and that was it.

GM's don't have that inertia switch. That's a Ford thing.

Battery might have gotten damaged from the jolt. The holdown just clamps a flange on the very bottom of the battery case. Any sudden shock can crack the case or distort the battery enough to damage the grids.

Try tapping your starter cylinoid (sp). Luminas seem to have a problem with that. The slightest jolt may have cause it to get tempermental. I do beleive checking for power is also an important factor here. Try to turn the key to the on position and turn on all the features in the car at the same time. If the windows roll down slow, it is your battery, if not try the starter.
