I would like to install a newer CD player in my 1996 Jetta. How do I do this? I definately will need step by step instructions. LOL. And am I going to need a code or something?

an aftermarket or one from another VW? Aftermarket will only require a wiring harness you can get cheap from a few online places, factory replacement will require the code from the side of the stereo to be decoded by a dealer. If you are getting it from a junkyard, look in the glovebox for the manuals as sometimes people write the code on the front cover, if from a friend, just ask them for the code. If you have to go to the dealer, take the radio with you and they might do it for free or if they charge you it will only be 5 bucks. I went in my uniform from the army reserves and they did it for free.

It is an afermarket. It is a Durabrand that I got at Walmart for $110 and the sound is excellent. I had it in my 89 Camry for 6 months and I loved it. The cheap Durabrand that my dad had in this Jetta sucks. If it is my car now, I want quality sound. LOL! I did get the CD player out but like you said, I need different wiring harnesses.

Thanks bigballs!

What the hell is durabrand? And you paid over $100 for it? WOW. Anyhoo, yeah you need a harness. Just go to best buy or anyone who does car audio. It will be about $15. Just match wires with the same color. No, you dont need a code.

Yea, if you are in a hurry and need it now just go to one of those places but if you are not in a hurry they are ALOT cheaper at online dealers like crutchf**** or others.
