My fourth 240. Easy fix?

Whats up guys. I just purchased my fourth 240. I haven't even picked it up yet but I am going to this weekend. Its an S14 kouki and I paid $1600 for it and I think I can fix it with a little work. Replacement parts needed include: front bumper cover, front bumper, hood, clutch fan, radiator, a/c condensor, headlights, grill, airbags, and the frame rail which supports the radiator/condensor. It sounds like a lot but if you guys have any experience with these parts, let me know if it is gonna be a bitch or if I got a pretty good deal. Thanks. The pics are here:

With a hit like that the frame is probably bent to shit, have fun.

logik, i know you're sour.. but i kinda have to agree with you.. gsr2nr94, you're gonna have to find out how the frame is.. i know its gonna take a ton of work but honestly, is it worth it with a potentially bent frame??

Given a unibody car, accidents do weird things. With a front hit like that I'm actually inclined to say that it's probably not that bad. The front sub frame on a 240SX is pretty much glued and spot welded onto the firewall, I doubt much force was transfered back judging by the pictures. And since the front sub frame is essentially two stamped sheet metal rails sticking off the front with the engine mount inbetween, any damage is almost certainly fixable, $1500 or less probably. The body work could easily amount to more.

I agree that the frame could be bent, and no. I only have 2 240's. I said that I am on my 4th one which means I have sold the rest except for my 95 S14 base model. So this is the thing: If this car's frame is tweaked too bad, then I will swap the 5 lus, the tail lights, the wheels, and everyting else over to my 95, but if the frame is good, then it might be worth fixing and keeping. I guess Ill find out.

Screw the airbags, get an aftermarket steering wheel and put gauges where the passanger airbag cover was.

Why are airbags a waste of money?? I could get them on ebay for cheap and they are not very hard to put in. I have put them in my GSR integra when I had it. And did you think about the part when I said I have a 95 S14 Chuki? Yea, last time I checked, I could just put them in.

Also, why will swapping the airbags be hard? The 95 and 97 are both OBD II right? I live in Michigan. They don't check shit really.

95 is OBD-I, 96+ was OBD-II

Just fuck'em, if you have the safety check, all they do is check if the light flashes when you start the car, something you can easily do.

you'd probably getting away with it if you had it done illegally but you'd never be sure if they'd work properly...

Airbags scare me, I mean I'm always wondering if they'll blow up in my face when I stopped at a light or something....

i always look at the plastic part where the airbag comes out on the steering wheel. Does that plastic place pop off and smack you in the face when the air bag comes out?? :slap:

I think it's meant to blow off to the side so it just breaks your arm in 3 different places. It's the airbag that breaks your nose and gives you a concussion.

normally they just flip up but i think some come right off and are directed to the windshield.. i'd never fuck with air bags.. too dangerous

I will install them myself legal or not. I have done it before so hopefully I can do it again, or maybe I will just swap everything over to my 95.

At the safety check, they make sure the light turns on where you start the car, but it's easy to get around, just connect the light to another light that flashes at startup, they will both flash and it'll be all good.

hit n run, the point isn't that he's trying to make it seem like they're there, if he had any common sense, he'd get them installed properly. i don't know about you but those movies with people getting in accidents without airbags kinda make me weary.. it may also be because i've seen a head on collision at 80km/h and the guy didn't have air bags.. ended up having some crazy spinal/back problems.. and it wasn't too amusing pulling him out of his car (which smelled like gasoline) and having him screaming cause his back hurt.. the girl in the passeneger seat was almost fubar..
i don't know man its up to you, maybe it takes an experience like mine to realize how much of a difference they can make..

you decide.. if you're in an accident, would you want
a) to have bumps and bruises and be saved by airbags you spent money on installing
or
b) gettin all fucked up with potential problems you may have to live with knowing that you could have avoided things by having the airbags installed properly

Unrelated car, but my bro crashed my moms 5 series and the steering wheel, passenger, and both side airbags went off. About $17k just to get and install new airbags. The insurance company wanted to salvage the car cuz it was gonna be so much because of the airbags.

I'm pretty sure some of the later 95' models were OBDI. Anyway... air bags? Big deal.. some S13s only have auto-seat belts instead of air bags. Plenty of people who've wrecked their S13s badly have lived to tell about them on these forums... It's not a big deal, especially since you've already installed them in another car and haven't had any problems. Good luck with the project man.

all early model 95s were obd 1 but cars that were actually built in 1995 were obd 2

i laugh and laugh when i hear people who are talking about smog certs. and safety checks and stuff like that.i live in MN and they cant do shit even if you want to remove your impact bumpers or remove your cat or swap an obd 1 b16 into an obd 2 civic. the cops dont check under hoods and even if they did the only thing they can do is check to see if the motor was reported stolen. the cops dont check gas, they dont look at anything. they are bitches about exhaust noise though. a harley or muscle car or truck can get away with straight pipes and be loud as he wants to here in MN, but if an import driver has a performance exhaust and doesnt let off the gas when the cop drives past, hes gonna get hassled.
