Tips for my first contest

hey, I searched around and I didnt find anything specific for people entering their first contest. I have built about 15 or so models in my life and they progressively get better. I can tell my current project should be my best to date (knock on wood). Anyways, I plan to enter a contest at a local hobbyshop if I can get it done by April. What I am looking for is any tips from experienced guys on preparations and what I can expect. How are they judged? What kinds of details tend to get the most attention? I have little chance of winning for sure but I want to do my best and learn as much as I can. Thanks all!

realism. Paint black trim/rubbers or chrome trim, if you havent already, and disply it nicely..make a diorama for it maybe.

Cleanliness of construction is probably the first thing. There should be no visible flaws of any kind in part fit, paint, decals, etc. You need to get the basics down first. As far as the competition itself is observed it probably also helps if the model stands out from the pack in some way be it colour, unusual livery or superdetailing.

However I think the most important thing is to not get too serious about it, just be happy to compete and be part of the display. Winning a trophy should be a bonus not the be all and end all.

Keep the focus on the basic's and make sure the model is clean and displayed well

I think the most important thing is to build for yourself, and enjoy it win or lose.

Thanks, I definately build for myself since I only have interest in building cars that i like. It should be fun to enter and see what people think of my work. I also look forward to seeing what other modelers come up with and maybe get a few ideas for myself.

I think that the most giving when entering a modelling contest is to look at others models. There is nothing better to jumpstart your creativity than looking at others stuff!!
And you will meet a few/lot of other carmodelling guys to share ideas, tips e.t.c. with. Invaluable..
