alternator charge check

how do i check the voltage my alternator is putting out. cause last time the repair guy said it was ptuting out 17 volts and iwanna make sure its putting otu the correct amount

take a volt meter set the setting on the meter to DC settings about 20 on the meter then apply the red probe on the meter to the hot side of batt. and the ground probe on the meter to the ground on the batt. that will tell you what your alt. is putting out start the car before you test it

well last time it said it was reading good voltage but when i took it to the shop they told me it bad been running 17 volts so i need a direct right from the alternator.

Just take it out and take it to schucks - they'll put it on their machine and tell you exactly what it's putting out.

your alternator should put out between 13-15 but mien was spinning at 17 and it was jsut free voltage unrestricted

You don't even need to take it out, take your car to Autozone or Advance Auto and they can test the alternator for free in the car. GL
