hi-
this is my first post, sorry if this is in the wrong forum or something.
i have a quick question...
i am in the middle of selling my 95 gs with 150k miles, and i have 2 options. my ultimate goal is to own an awd turbo dsm, preferably 2nd generation. my two options are...

a) a girl has told me she'll give me 4500 for it... and i have a few thousand in the bank, so i could probably get a 2g awd dsm in reasonable shape.

b) a guy wants to trade me for his 1g gsx w/97k miles... it has a few mods, fmic, fpr, injectors, slightly bigger turbo, intake, exhaust, short shifter, a few other small things.... and i'd have my bank money to do anything else i wanted to it... but it wouldnt be a 2g.

so id just like to see what some of you would do, and what you think is the better idea. thanks a lot for the input.

if you really want a 2g I would hold out for a 2g. If you get the 1g, it might satify you now but who knows if your gonna start hating it in a few months wishing you held out for the 2g... peace

any type? 5speed, auto? if your ultimate goal is to own a awd turbo dsm, preferably 2g, then you could sell your car to find a 2g gsx in a well enough maintained condition that you won't be banging you head against the wall for getting a crappy one. (that goes for any car)

or if you just prefer an awd dsm the 1g doesn't sound bad. But I can't make any desicions for you, so you just have to go with the one that best suits you because you wouldn't want to regret it later.

Any idea why the guy wants to trade his 1g gsx for your 2g gs?

i dont know why he wants to trade, maybe he's sick of the performance aspect and just wants a better looking car? maybe he grew out of the go fast stage (i dont know how that's possible) but im not asking too many questions as to his motives

Stronger internals, bigger throttle body, a larger turbo. The guy selling the 1G GSX must be going for the sleaker 2G look because there is no logical reason for trading in regard to performance. :rolleyes:

um....:sly: the 2g turbos have a 4g63 engine. Only the GS/RS have the 420A.

For some reason I have the feeling you don't know what you're talking about. For one, the only 2g's that have the 420a are the RS and GS models. The turbo 2g's have the 4g63 as well. While the 6-bolt (90-92 I believe) 4g63s are better than the 7-bolts (93-99?) internally, they both have their pros and cons. For one, the 1g MAS sucks balls. Most of the 1g rears suck too (excluding the year that had the 4-bolt rear, 92 maybe?). The 1g exhaust manifold and o2 housing both suck as well.

Now the 2g has a better MAS (meaning that it has a higher max airflow than the 1g MAS, about 50 lbs/min), and a better exhaust manifold/o2 housing. The stock 2g turbo does blow (no pun intended ;) ). Also, the intake manifold/head/tb flow less than the 1g. There are many other things I don't really feel like mentioning, but this is just to give you an idea.

It's basically a toss-up as to which generation is "better", and it's really all relative to the goals of the person driving the car.

If a 2g is what you want, then take the time to look for a 2g. The 1g you're looking at has already been somewhat modded, and I personally would never buy a modded car unless the mods were VERY minimal. I would look for a stock 1g or 2g. Which generation you choose is entirely up to you. However, if you decide to go with a 1g, look for a 90-92 (and early 93 I think). Those years seem to be the best for the 1st gens.

Good luck with your decision, and just remember - it doesn't matter what year/model dsm you choose, you're still a part of the community! :)

You do realize the original poster is selling his Eclipse GS and therefore comments about the 420a are appropriate.

if she is willing to pay $4500 for a 95 gs with 150k, i would go for it, you won't get much more than that, if any more,so if she's willing, go for it. plus, if you really want the 2g, then sell and get the 2g.

It all comes down the age old question racer or ricer.BUT If it were me I'd take the cash if you got cash in the bank and you have 4500 coming in you could find a great car for that. The problem with the 1g is its modified if it were me i wouldnt want to buy something that was, due to the fact you really dont know how well the work was done and obviously hes beat on it pretty good.http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/2cents.gif

Take the money. You can also always buy a 1g if you change your mind, which is the key point. With money..you have time to think about it and make sure you're getting what you want. If you make a trade, you're stuck.

im gonna go for the money. i'll have damn near 6k if i add that 4500 to what i already have, and i'm sure i could get a reasonable 95 gsx for that.

i mean come on, im pretty sure that finding someone who's willing to pay 4500 for a 150k mile 95 GS is pretty rare. i'll take it. :)

I dont think that 1g vs 2g can be summed up as racer vs ricer. Not even close. There are now just as many fast 2Gs are there are fast 1Gs. Most of the 1Gs advantages are wiped out as soon as you start to upgrade. How long does a "racer" stay on a 14b? Once you upgrade to a 16g for example, both cars are the same in this regard. And so on and so forth. There is a weight difference, but there are 2Gs out there that are jsut as light as 1Gs.

Concerning which is better for performance I see only two points where the 1G is superior. If you dont plan on getting into turbo upgrades, the 1g is a better start in that sense. You can hit 12s for a couple hundred less (but the MAS and fuel pump suck ass, etc). And second, they are so damn cheap, they make good cars to strip down for a race car, leaving more money left over for mods.

Its the same platform. It really is a tossup as guitarXgeek said. For road racing and autox for example, people go with 2Gs. Why? 1G suspension is not as good. You can argue it both ways all day, for performance, not looks. ;) I think my 2g is pretty quick, for a ricer car :icon16:

1g guy's just have more $$ to spend because they are not splitting costs between looking good and going fast :)

Hey, hey now.. There are some decent body & lighting kits for us 1G owners..lol Just not very many though. :shakes head:

As for your post, if you're talking about the post I made earlier it was specifically intended in compairison to the GS he owns and the 1G the guy wants to trade him, which I saw at least one person who understood that. I never once posted anywhere saying all 2G's are 420A's so I don't know where a couple of them guys got that from.. a side from lack of comprehension skills.


Now..If I said a comment in regard to a 1G 4g63 being superior to a 2G in some other post well, they are & it's just a fact.

you gotta be specific about what you are saying. a 6bolt is better than a 7bolt. 7bolts came on 1g's and 2g's. 2g exhaust mani's are better than 1g's. 1g heads are better than 2g heads. same for throttle body's. 2g MAS is better than 1g.

be specific.
