poor mileage

My 95 Metro 1.0L auto is only getting about 29 MPG on the highway. It was suggested to me that it could be the MAP Sensor. Does this sound right? I have no idea but it's a fairly inexpensive part if it will fix the mileage problem.

AT right?

Have the cylinders compression tested. If the compression is low, then it might be time for a rebuild. These 993cc engines tend to get tired around 125k miles.

I haven't heard that a MAP sensor would cause that. The sensors tend to either work or not, and if it wasn't working then you would get a fault code on your check engine light.

If your check engine light is coming on, then run the diagnostic and chase down the code. As you will recall all you have to do is pop a 15 fuse into the diagnostic slot with the key off. Then rotate the key to "on" without cranking the engine. The flash code will give you a 2 digit number.

This baby's got 170k on it, so maybe I should get a compression test on it. That sounds a lot more likely. What would it cost for a rebuild? I can still drive this a long way at 29 MPG considering my other vehicle Chev 3/4 ton 13 MPG. lol

What are these 3 speeds normally get for gas mileage anyways?

Your 993cc w/ AT should pull 35 mpg on normal driving (highway and city about the same) without AC running. Drop 2-3 mpg if you run AC.
