Does the CX have a tach wire?

I was just curious if the CX came with a wire for a tach or not... I know obviously it doesnt have one, but I know Honda always puts all those extra little things in so they dont need to make like 100 differant kinds of harnesses for their cars and things like that -- so I was wondering if my CX might have a stock TACH wire already there some place?

Also, out of curiosity -- cause god knows the last thing I have right now is money to throw away, the SIR guage clusters have a little "car" on them and when you open a door -- it shows it as being open, the back/trunk open as well... is that all just in the guage cluster and wiring -- or would actually having those features require sensors and crap? I was just looking at a cluster and wondered... anyone?

Yes the CX comes wired for the tach. I have a 99CX and i changed from stock cluster to EX cluster. Plug and play. Just disconect the old cluster plug the new one, turn on the car and enjoy your new toy.

maybe a stupid question, but as far as keeping the mileage the same, can you just roll the mileage on the new cluster to the correct setting with your finger? I just want to make sure my 42K civic doesnt end up saying it has whatever miles the cluster has.
Thanks!

All you have to do to install a tach on any of the Civics is run a wire under the hood and tap into the rpm sensor wire. It's blue with a white line (sometimes a dashed line). Easy.

The 5th gen Lx has the same engine as the Dx but it does have a tach.

You remove the center odometer section and replace it on the new cluster. It's also plug and play.

The tach wire is already included in the wiring harness that plugs into your cluster. Also included in the harness are wires taking in information from several sensors already in place that detect if any "zones" are open or not. Your Cx already tells you if the tailgate is open, and you have small momentary switches already in the door jambs (You know, you were being stupid with them last night on my car). So no you wouldn't to ghetto-rig anything.

Rolling back the Odometer is illegal!!! You will have to take the complete Speedo gauge with the Odo from your cluster and swap it to the new one.
Take out a couple of screws at the back and take it out and put it on the new one and youre done.

The sir guage cluster with the little car on it is for sedans and I would not recomend installing it in hatchbacks because it is thicker. It will still work, but it will be kind of a bitch to put in and you you risk breaking the board in the back of the cluster if you force it in place too hard. The trunk sensor works with no additional wiring.

here is a picture of my guages I posted it in the JDM Forum
