Hey Guys
I am parting out my old engine and I have hit a problem. I have the cylinder head off, the cams, rocker arms and lash adjusters moved. Next step is the valve springs. I have a Haynes manual is it looks as though part of casting is removed but I can not get at the springs with my valve spring remover.
If you can give me any help that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Alex

You need to use a socket with a hole cut out of it to make your compressor work. This way it will reach both sides of the spring and valve, and it will allow you to remove the retainer. Or you can buy a Miller's Valve Spring compressor that bolts to the head and allows you to compress the valves.
Check vfaq.com for instructions on how to compress the springs.

My machinist will pop them all out for a 6 pack. Well worth the 10 minute drive to save the aggrevation.

Shit, I would do it for a case! :grinyes:
6 pack just doesnt do anything but make me more thirsty. :grinno:

Yea, this is me pulling out the valves on Joemathews head. You can see the valve spring compressor in the background on the other side of the head.
