Camaro vs. 240

AHAHHA you thought it would be one of those threads...nope its not. Im going to be racing a '98 V6 Camaro 5-Spd from a dead stop on the highway in my '91 240SX Auto...he hates imports sooo this is a good time to show him he has no chance. Ill have results Monday Afternoon about 3:30 central Time for those of you who want to tune in!

i actually think this race may be in favor of the chevy. just hope that he messes up on his shifting or something. other wise he will probably beat you.

i would actually put 100 bucks on the camaro. the v6's are slow but an auto 240 with intake is slower in my mind. but race him anyways because racing is fun!

ive actually never raced a NA 240 but i know i've beatin a v6 camaro and mustang in my celica...and my celica was slow as ass

My moms v6 camaro has a 60-80 of like 10 seconds. But I've never driven an auto 240 either. Tape porn to the side of your car before racing.

My car launched side by side with that 305 V8 Camaro(1990)? Lol tape porn to my car hell no i dont want him hitting me....so you guys think hell take me from a dead stop? Hell have 2 people in his car and ill only have just me...Hmm i have a chance in 3rd and 4th gears? its only putting out 200 HP.

98 v6 camaro 5 speed is faster then that old 305 camaro and faster then that mustang you raced........

actually they aren't bad cars especially when you look at it from a v6 objective... only reason people look down on them so much is the fact you can get a really good v8 as an option.....

The 3.8 V6 4th Gen F-body's can't or at least shouldn't be compared to 3rd Gen v6's. The 95 3.8 came stock with 200 horsepower and is very easy to get much more from. They pretty much hung almost dead even with the Mustang GT's made that same year. So they are no push overs. I wish you the best of luck and like was said before lets hope they can't shift very well but I would put money on the camaro if I was a betting man.

yea camaro. If you were a 5-speed different story. I raced a v6 camaro...except it was the kind that you see in every trailer park. Like from the late 80's early 90's in my auto. From a roll start, i have to say i launched ahead of him then he just went by me. Of course i had a huge exhaust leak so my car sounded like a lawn mower. But i think you'll get beat.

I've raced several V6 camaros, I beat them off of the line pretty hard but they always catch me after about 800-1000 feet. So I'll never make it to the 0.25 mile first. I haven't noticed much difference with the camaro auto/manual.. both seem to catch me at about the same time. Of course light to light, the distance is short enough that I can win. =p

3rd and 4th gear have very little to offer the 240, you'll win it in first and second, or you just won't win it.

Mine is MT,SOHC, Intake/exaust/header, sticky tires. =p


EDIT: I sure have the launch down though, I got at least 3 car lenghts ahead of my dad's 72' Trans Am, and that car comes in at low 13's. =D
Of course he overtakes me in about 400 feet, and will finish while I'm barely half way ;_;

I think the Camaro will win. I wish you luck, but I think the auto vs. manual will hurt you. Post the results when you're done though. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. BTW, why does he have two people in his car?

i raced v6 stangs and camaros in my old sohc ka auto and take em by a car or two

from a stop....i doubt it hard core. And if you did win, you shouldnt let your little sister drive under age.

Iunno who will win should be good...i beat at 65-100 big time once...Heres the story behind him having 2 people in car. We both go toa Tech School and we have to drive back to our high schools and he happens to drive on the same highway back...so were gonna come to a stop and im gonna hopefully come out witha W agiauinst him

It will be a good race, Just don't underestimate a GM v-6. Alot of people do that with my GN.. Alot of people now know what the taillights of a Buick Grand National look like

from what i've seen at my local drag strip, a early 90's 240 n/a runs a high 16 to low 17 second, the 3.8 powered F-body turns a mid to high 15. Just a little bit of info to consider.

im in agreement with most of the guys in this thread.. the 3.8 is a good engine, imo underrated.. my 3.4 has quite a bit done to it, and i barely squeaked past one this past summer.

Well you can mark one down for the Camaros. Off the line at a dead stop I beat him...but When we did a rollin start at 27MPH and he smoked me by like 3 car lengths.

how did your auto-magic respond to the rolling start?

IHE. The 240 doesn't have much of a top-end until you do them. I raced a 3.4l 01 grand am when I was IHE and he had an exhaust. From a stop, he beat me, but I did have the worlds shittiest tires. But the next day, we were both doing about 95 and I passed him with no problems. It really pissed him off.hahahaha

so your auto beat him off the line and he has a stick? guess he cant launch that good.

to be honest i don't see how it would be any competition.. no offense man but an auto 240 may give you a 1/8 car length lead for about 6 metres but he should have smoked you.. those camaros are quick.. stock auto 240s aren't

On the dead stop I pulled fro him like 2 car lengths then we had to slow down. but on the 25 MPH rolling i should have manually put it in 2nd...so he whooped me by like 2-4 cars...Man i wish i would have downshifted that beyotch because of no acceleration in 3rd... cant wait til my 5-Spd w00t

So v6 camaro's from 80's-90's can beat a 240?
That wasn't the case with me, i remember i posted a thread about that, and i smoked the guy on a dead stop and rolling start. It was a v6 camaro, i think 94, automatic, whatsup with that?

I beat a 1991 RS V8 camaro...but this camaro beat me i think mainly because i was in 3rd when i started instead of 2nd :(

well what setup do you have?? he had a stock s13 ka24de auto.. correct me if i'm wrong but the 5 speed will fair better than a manual.. i mean, my car is 5spd with an intake and walbro pump but i've been curious what the guys before me had.. cause its feels faster than almost any other stock 240.. a friend of a friend was with me last year and she said it feels way faster.. anyways blablabla
i'm gonna find a camaro over the summer and see how i do..

My honest opinion on the race...I think my 240 could have beaten it. only if i would have had it in 2nd though! hitting myself...but we will have another chance...ill get my exhaust. And then drop it into second and hopefully that gives me the edge on him.

man do your auto/manual conversion first... i'd be pulling my hair out if i were you cause of that..

Ummm...Ok this is my BIG DILEMMA...my mom insisted so much on me not getting the 5Spd...it was kinda freaky. If my mom found out...OMFG...im going to ask if her opinion still has changed on the Whole 5Spd thing. If she says fine or says no im gonna do it like June or July...My mom will probably freak if she knew how much i spent on my Intake and Exhaust once i get them... She saw my intake yesterday on accident i was oh crap close the hood and she just walked up and talked to me...Not one word about the shiny chrome thing that wasnt there when i bought it... SOOOOOOOOO...maybe she doesnt care what i do to my car!(w00t)

Thank you maybe youll get an S13 now :D not likely but hey...um eventually she would notice but she didnt say anything about my intake which i thought she would freak...

Maybe I'll end up getting an S13 this summer and then getting an S14 next summer, I dunno, all I know is that I want something this summer that's rear wheel drive, manual and cool.

ive smoked a old camaro 350 years ago off the line with a stock 240sx auto

shift, i know there is.. i've already done it on my car.. check out my cardomain, there's a page on it, it think its page 6.. and i didn't have to turn them manually, i still control them from the interior.. i'm gonna try to sell my pivot controller to a guy i know with a 240..
monooxide, you have to think logically why a 5spd is better.. just like i argued about downshifting an auto, downshifting in a 5speed when you're in rain, snow or on a hill is much more safe than relying on your brakes (although your brakes have a 1,000,000,000:1 chance of giving out).. but it helps you slow down in slippery conditions.. to me its all about control.. i don't feel as thought i have as much control in an auto as i do in a 5spd.. try using that argument and see what she says..
