Anybody have an idea as to how to get the wires out. I just bought this 1991 Z34 and it has the original plugs and wires in the right bank. the Firewall is awlfully close and wont let the wire boot come out. Do ?I have to jack the engine????

Hello there...
i guess you can use the method this guys have been telling, there is two aluminium bones on front of the car, take them loose, then with the car on neutral, rock the engine until you have clear access to the back part, be sure to lock it on that position with something like a piece of wood, or something so it won't come back while you are working.
Or...
you can take the map sensor and various cables and wires that go right behind the alternator, and then you will have some decent space to work, be aware that you can scratch yourself a little, but it is posible. This is the way i have been doing it, till i discover the other. Good Luck!

I unbolted the motor mounts (in front over the radiator) and backed my truck up to the car. I hooked up 2 ratchet straps..one to each motor mount and the other ends to the hitch on my truck and ratched the motor forward to access the rear plugs. It held the motor in place for me so I could work freely.

He doesn't have the 3.1 engine. Only the 3.1 has the luxury of rocking forward. the 3.4 only has one dogbone mount up top, and no matter how hard you try, the 3.4 engine does not rock forward, (unless your lower engine mounts are already shot to pieces). To get the spark plug wires on the rear bank, above them there is a piece of weatherstripping. Removing it may give you enough room to pull the plug boot. If not, a tried and true method, is to use a cutoff tool or a die grinder to notch the sheet metal above the boots, giving you plenty of room to take them out (that's what I did).
However, there are those of us who would rather not notch our sheet metal.
The book method is to remove your plenium. If you decide to remove your plenium, you will probably need an upper intake gasket, they ususally tear when you remove the plenium.

alll i did was remove the weather stripping and had enough room to pull them out. i didnt even bother rocking the engine. i was able to pull the wires and plugs w/o... i used a 6 in and then a 3 in extension that i threw on after i got the 6 in on the plug to pull them out....

All i did was remove the weather stripping and then bend the sheet metal up with some plyers. Then I had plenty of room to remove the plugs and wires. Then bend the metal back in place and place the weather stripping back.

I didn't remove, rock, unbolt or move anything. I just pulled the plug wires out (marking where they came from) and used 2 3/8" drive extensions (connected together by a 3/8" swivel adapter) and used a spark plug socket with a rubber insert (that gripped the plug itself) to remove and insert the plugs. Just make sure u don't tap the end of the plug during the procedure, or u'll screw up u're gap. 1992 Lumina Z34 3.4

i know it's a little late to post.... and you've probably already changed them..... but I tried the SAME thing, and ended up grinding the metal with a DREMEL tool JUST to get enough room. took MANY hours... but finally got my Platinum+4 plugs in there!
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

I ran screaming from the shop whenever a DOHC 3.4 came on the lot, so I don't know. :grinno:
Now I wish I'd paid more attention to them. Wasn't aware of the potential then. Only that whenever they came in on a wrecker, it was gonna be bad news.
