Please, help

I have 90' Firebird Formula and I do not have manual. I have this car for a few years and have been managing problems with it some how but something wrong with the electrical system??? or not - when I try to start the car, security light went on and car does not start at all, and then in a while it will be fine again... Every time I try to go somewhere I afraid it won't start! Help!!!!!

i had a friend with a 90 and his ignition switch started to go bad and would not read the chips on the side of the key right and would do that. he ended up selling the car because he could not fix it. he replaced the ignition switch with a new one from GM and had to keep replacing it every 6 months after that. i believe it may fall back to i computer going bad or a bad ground curcuit. just a few ideas but i am not sure just suggestions to keep in mind

could be as simple as a battery going weak, or a starter solenoid getting to hot, or a combination of both. what type of engine do you have?

the secruity system is kinda complex but you can by pass the ignition switch part for about 50 cents and half hour or less work you heed an dvom and measure the resistance of yer keys chip then go to radio shake buy a matching resistor get under the dash on the driver side you should find a orange sleave with 2 white wires in it un plug it and install resistor on the computers side this will eliminate any igniton switch or key problems if that dosent work the system may need to be reprogramed :naughty: :confused:

mine started that, right before i blew the head gasket. i havnt started the car since but i might need to do the resistor mod to my car

I have a 95 that had the same problem, but as long as I wait a second or two before starting it I never have any problems. The security system just takes a little bit in order to read the chip in the key. Good luck.

I have the same problem really sux when your best girl is in the car and it won't start. I've had to wait up to 5 mins before.
