Im looking at getting some strut bars for my car. How much should I spend on them? I don't know really how they work but I know where they go. What materials do they need to be made of? Anyone suggest certain brands? I've found all 4 for like 80 bucks on ebay. I was wondering if the carbon fiber ones would do okay for $80. Thanks guys.

Remember in most cases you get what you pay for. Some of those Ebay stuff are cheap cheap metals and don't do squat.

But you know what before you start spending money on car items maybe you should do some research and find out what they do.

I mean I could sell you some taillight fluid for $50 that gives you 50hp!

would you take $55 shipped?

:D

agreed, research everything before you buy, it saves you the time and money of not buying cheap shit. I've had some parts in mind and then did some research and within 20 minutes I was 99% convinced that I didn't want to buy those pieces of shit. Like said above, you get what you pay for generally, so spend wisely.

Ok, I'm getting the hang of the 'you get what you pay for.' But how much should I spend on a front upper, rear lower and front lower strut bar, or how much per bar.?

I found a company called Megan Racing that I have been happy with. I even bought them off ebay. I think I payed about $35-45 for each bar, of you can buy them all in a set. I had 3 of them on my integra and was very happy with them. I'm not saying that these are the best that you can buy, I see people spend $100+ on just one bar, but I don't have the cash for that. So for a moderate price, I recomment the brand mentioned above.

since we're on the subject, for the upper front strut bar, solid is supposed to be better than hinged, correct?

yes, front strut tower bars are weak at the hinges and I've actually seen some of the really cheap ones completely flex and bend at the hinges.

What's the point in having a hinged strut bar? The idea of a strut bar is to reduce flexion in the chassis, so why buy anything with a 'hinge.' Last time I checked anything with a 'hinge' flexed.

here's my rear upper after I had a mild accident in my integra. The rear lower one looked the same way.

Those two were cheap ones off ebay. My front upper and lower were a little better brand and did not bend. (maybe it's the better quality, or maybe the front didn't flex like the back, who knows)

I recommend a solid rear bar in a FF car. For the front, it's probably better to get a hinged one as you want a little flex to keep the wheels planted.

In some applications, front strut bars have even been known to have an adverse effect on a FF car. I bought a cheap one for the front and made my own solid piece for the rear. I drove them for awhile seperately as well, and the rear makes about 4 times more difference in handling than the front ever did.

Hope that helps.

That's interesting...... hmmm... So Why is it better in front wheel drive applications? is it just the drivetrain setup? I'm not sure... But I Thinks i would go with solid bars in both front and back. Is it necessary to have all 4 bars? I'm not even sure what they 'really' do.

Strutbars mainly add rigidity to the frame. It's like adding the fourth wall to a square.

Yeah a little late to the party.
