lift questions

I have a 1993 GMC Jimmy 4x4 4 door. I was wondering what are some good lifts. I am looking into both body lifts and suspension lifts. Does anyone know the difference? And also when I was looking I saw Jimmy and Jimmy s15.... whats the difference? Thanks alot

body lift lifts the body up higher off of the suspension and does nothing for the offroad capability really.

The diffrence between a S-15 Jimmy and a Jimmy is that a Jimmy is full size. GMC used the name fromroughly '67-'91 when they dropped the Jimmy name for the full size and went to the Yukon name. The S-15 is the mid-size. GMC does'nt make these any more. They stopped production of the Jimmy when they replaced it by the Envoy.
Just a tip on lifts, if you're going to lift it, go with a suspention lift. It costs more but it's the right way to do it. Body lifts can loosen up and you have to make several modifications to multiple systems in your truck.

Why do you want the lift?
If you going off road you want a chassis lift. It raises the whole works, body, frame, engine, transmission, everything but the differential. A word of warning though, I put a 4" chassis lift on my 94 and have had nothing but trouble. Because the front axels are operating at a higher angle, the CV joints are put under additional stress and the boots rub and wear through quickly which exposes the joints to dust, dirt, mud and small critters, expecially when off road. We received new A Arms with the kit which rub on the stock wheels on tight turns, slowly machining them to fit, they didn't come with a brake hose mount so we wore through the ABS sensor line and filled the sensor with water first time in the mud. Suspension parts wear more quickly, 2 sets of Ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm ect. I admit I started with parts from Peppy Boys(total crap), but I've moved up to Car Quest, but, I'm about to do it again.
You can get a couple inches of lift by adjusting the torsion bars up front and adding a shackle extension in the rear. But experience has taught me that more than 2 inches for a daily driver is too much.

If you get a body lift you can fit larger tires. Larger tires will naturally give your entire car (undercarriage, tranny etc) a little higher stance and make it more offroady. Body lifts are 1/10 of the price of a suspension lift too.
