accord V6 harmonic balancer removal

I finally found the snap on tool that keeps the pulley from turning while loosening the bolt. I need to know the best tool to use to remove the balancer. It seems a 3 jaw puller would work best. Although I haven't looked yet to see how much clearance is on the front of the balancer. My Honda manual doesn't mention having to remove anything else to get additional clearance. I just paid $600 to have all the belts and water pump replaced. Next time I can do it for around $120 in parts. It's all a matter of having the right tools.

last time i pulled a crank pulley off a honda, the only puller i needed was already attached.... my hands.

I have been a honda tech since 1994 and have never had to use a puller to remove the balancer.Just a couple of screw drivers working back and forth on each side.Don,t let it hit the floor the pulley will chip.Carl

A couple small pry bars or screw drivers. pry just enough to move it a bit, then wiggle it off with your hands.

I work for honda of america, Mfg. Inc. at the Anna Engine Plant in ohio. we build the 4 and 6 cylinder engines there. I can tell you from the factory, these crank pulleys are installed by hand. There a keyway slid onto the end of the crank, followed by the pulley, then the bolt. The bolt is tightened to spec, and that's it. They are not pressed on. I have fashioned my own pulley removal tool from a 3 1/2 inch piece of galvanized pipe. Just pressed it in a vice in 5 areas, to the shape of the inside of the pulley, and drilled a hole on the other end of the pipe to slide a breaker bar through to hold the pipe still, and then used a ratchet/socket to loosen the crank pulley bolt. Much cheaper than buying some speciallty equipment that is grossly overpriced!!
