First you should check your fuses.
If the fuses are good. Test at least two plugs for spark. If no spark. Test for voltage at the coil, if there is no voltage at the coil,
let us know and we will assist you in testing the ignition circuit.
If there is voltage follow the procedure in this image:
The Specifications it refers to at the begining of the chapter are:
Primary resistance..........0.2 to 0.5 ohms
Secondary resistance......5,000 to 25,000 ohms

Check you battery voltage when engine is off and when running. Use a voltmeter.
Also, have you ever done a tunup? Did you replace the cap and rotor?
Ever changed the fuel filter?

What is the IAC valve and where is it?
I have been lurking this site for a couple of months and have found useful information (erratic fuel guage is semi common) and generally enjoy the site.
I must say the " SEARCH " function is cumbersome and generally useless.
"Chiltons" has little more than torque values and is just as useful as the search function. Have mercy on us that ask questions you have heard a thousands of times.
Some info such as the coil check located within this thread is very handy to keep around but will be difficult to track if I ever need it in the future.
Thanks for an almost complete list of items required for a tune up (put that in the search engine) but I really would like to know.
What is the IAC valve? Where is it? And how do I clean it?
Cheers/Ken

Should be near the throttle body.
Reference what it looks like in the chilton's manual.

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls your idle speed by varying the air flow past the throttle bore. The PCM controls the electrically operated pintle inside the valve to vary air flow. This pintle sometimes gets carboned up and needs to be cleaned. The IAC valve mounts on the throttle body. You have to remove the air duct from the throttle body to access it, because it is underneath it. The IAC valve is on the lower rear of the drivers side of the throttle body and has a connector with four wires going to it. Don't confuse it with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) which is right above it attached to the throttle shaft.
Just use carburetor cleaner or throttle body cleaner to remove the carbon deposits from the pintle and from the passageways where the IAC valve mounts.
This is the maintainence schedule I recommend:
