Injector time :D

Well as it gets down too it I am coming up on the time to get injectors. I pretty much have everything I need except a Wideband O2, NHRA approved flywheel and big ass injectors. DSMlink for the Spyder is coming in 2 weeks (Tax return). Running 2 - 255lph hp pumps, Aero FPR, stock rail, and SS fuel lines from tank - hi-flow fuel filter - rail - FPR - and back to the tank. Now my decision is injectors. Kevin, I am looking at 1000cc injectors but I have heard and read I cant go over 950cc's with DSMlink.
My goals are 700awhp with a modded FP3065 (75lb/min compressor wheel) and a 125 shot direct port. I know I cant get that on pump although it would be tight so it will be on 116-120 octane race gas. Possibly even 130 if I can still get it. (Jet fuel)
Basically I think I will have enough for 10s but I just want enough to sling me into the 9s. If I dont hit 9s this year, I will do it for sure next year! Thats all I want is 1 single digit timeslip then I am done with modding DSMs. I dont think anyone has done it with DSMlink yet (dont quote me on that) and I know that no one has done it in a convertable eclipse yet so I am going for records! :icon16: So far I have spent $13k just in mods on it. Talk about a fuckin money pit! Engine, roll cage, seats and harnesses, gauges, tranny and drivetrain. I start my motor build up in the middle of march, break it in the last week, then I will be ready for the track by the first weekend in April! I have all the parts and everything is ready to go except injectors and DSMlink. I am going to be running Mickey Thompson drag radials, suspention is Eibach sportline and they seem to be good enough, I said fuck brakes, who needs to stop? Those are staying stock unless I have the urge this summer to do them. I have a shep tranny, front kazz diff, and welded center diff :uhoh: hope it holds. Block remains 2.0 and its built to all hell (knifed edged crank + crank scrapper, Wiseco pistons .030 over, Eagle rods) same with the head, 1st gen ported and polished and everything in it has been replaced with performance parts (1mm oversized valves, TI dual springs and retainers, and 272/272 cams) rev to 9k. BJ intake manifold with ZEX direct port setup, 91N/T TB, 3" short route intercooler piping with a 36x12x4 (3" inlet/outlet) Spearco FMIC. 3.5" GM Maf and MAFT (Sorry Kevin, I copied your exact UICP  ) Tubular exhaust mani, Tial 44mm EX WG, Running mandrel bent 4" exhaust straight pipe from the O2 Housing back. Wideband O2. ACT 2900lb clutch with a 6 puck disk should be fine, might need a 4 puck dont know yet. Battery is relocated in the trunk, kill switch is ran behind the license plate so when I run it, I will just take off the plate. Scatter shield I got with the tranny so thats taken care of... got 3 drive shaft loops so they better fuckin like it!
This car has been a fucking major project in the last 3 months. Right now the engine bay is being stripped then I am putting the fuse box in the glove box to get rid of all those damn wires in the engine bay. Then around the last week of feb it goes in to get a fresh paint job in the engine bay. A guy I know did this and it looks hella tight!
Well that seems about it for what I have done so far, who knows, maybe if I get 9s I might get a wild hair and gut the whole car and see what she can do. I know a guy from Minneapolis that ran 10.4 in a full weight 2g GSX and snapped 4th (664awhp). Hopefully with the aid of nitrous I wont have a problem.
Anyways, thanks for any imput and hopefully I have a good year this year, definately taking this bitch to the shootout in August! Also, kevin if you think its near impossible to run DSMlink into the 9s I have been looking at VPC and I'm keeping my mind open for that!
Thanks guys!
Jake
I am kinda keeping this on the down low for now, once I get the time slip I am probably going to be opening a website with full details and pictures that also responds to the business I am starting, I'll keep you guys informed.

You should sell half of your 19 cars and use that money.

The cage cost a total of $600. $400 for the kit, $200 to get it dipped after it was assembled. Cant have a shitty looking cage in a spyder man, com'on you know that! If I did, I would never want to put the top down. :grinno:

If I sold half of them, the value would be shit, I mean seriously who sells half a car :lol2::lol::rofl:

Man, where to start... I'll just copy your post and hit all the points I think I should. But before we get started, 9s is a lofty goal. I'm all for setting goals too high (I do the same thing), just dont get your hopes up, and get discouraged if it takes you a few years to do it, like most poeple do (and then part out the car) :) I don't have a 10 second car myself either, so take what I say here for what it's worth.
Now my decision is injectors. Kevin, I am looking at 1000cc injectors but I have heard and read I cant go over 950cc's with DSMlink.
1000 CCs would require a global correction of 450/1000-1, or -55%. 950s are -53%, hardly much different. At any rate, the DSMlink range goes to -60%. They just released a new client version in the forums that will compensate for up to 1600cc, -72%. I think it goes to 75. But, I have seen no feedback at all on what happens to idle IPW resolution at that point, still waiting. For a drag only car, who cares. But if it has to idle below 1500 rpm it could be an issue. Either way, 1000 CCs will run just fine. 1000s will support 74 lbs/min on pump at 11:1, or 76 lbs/min with race fuel and 12:1 AFR. So on a 75 pound turbo they barely cut it. Throw in nitrous and it can get ugle. Might want to look into the 1600s...
My goals are 700awhp with a modded FP3065 (75lb/min compressor wheel) and a 125 shot direct port. I know I cant get that on pump although it would be tight so it will be on 116-120 octane race gas. Possibly even 130 if I can still get it. (Jet fuel)
The 3065 is a 65 pound wheel, hence the terminolgy. Its the GT40 56 trim wheel used in my old buddy the M14, as well as GT14, GT35R, and a plethora of other turbos use that wheel. One bad ass wheel. I think the turbo you may be referring to is the 3575, which is basically my current T67 wheel in some other configuration. Obviously in FPs turbine housing. I don't see how you could run this on a 2 liter, but the nitrous might make it doable. The problem is that trap speed is easy to make, ETs require fast spool and even faster shifting, not to mention a good launch.
Jet fuel tends to be a lower octane than the good race fuels, and it is also just not forumlated for what we are doing. I would stick to a 116-117 octane leaded fuel like most poeple use. Use it the way it is intended to be used. Jet fuels arent made for normal engines.
I think tens is certainly a reasonable possiblity. DSMlink has runs 9s, check out Russ Coxe's page. MAFt as well. ;) DSMlink is more than capable. Unfortunately most of the 9 second cars are running AEM or somethign else, so we have to wait for the DSMlinkers to drop into the nines since you wont see any of those guys swapping back to stock ECU/etc anytime soon. Its happening though, 2005 is going to be a huge year. Did gary andriotis run 9s? That may make 2, might be low tens though.
I am going to be running Mickey Thompson drag radials, suspention is Eibach sportline and they seem to be good enough, I said fuck brakes, who needs to stop? Those are staying stock unless I have the urge this summer to do them. I have a shep tranny, front kazz diff, and welded center diff hope it holds.
This is where it gets dicey. Keeping the drivetrain intact is going to be your number one goal. SLicks will help (Most poeple run Hoosier quick time pros). But the key is weight transfer. If too much goes to the rear on a solid center, you will break tcases and rear axles no question about it. All the guys cutting the sick 1.2-1.4 short times are on dedicated drag only suspensions. Either GC or DSS coilovers, or JICs super secret setup. This is one of the moves I had to make this year or risk not improving my ET at all. Dont skimp here if you really want low tens or high 9s! Watch videos of a typical 10 or 11 second car launch, then watch sheps car (or similar). The difference is in the suspension.
ACT 2900lb clutch with a 6 puck disk should be fine, might need a 4 puck dont know yet.
This is also going to make keeping the car together tough. I'm struggling with a cluth choice myself. I think the key is honestly a regular 2900/street disc with a serious weight loss diet. Heavy cars break parts, and turn street discs to a greasy ball of shit. Lighter cars get away with more reasonable clutches. Your example of the 2g shattering 4th is very common. And no matter who builds your tranny, you are still using the weak 3rd/4th stock gears (exception is marcos dog box, but at $5k...) Another tip is to do like I do and pussy the launch until the car is tuned. Go by mph. Once you have the mph you need to run the ET you want, then its worthwile to risk the driveline on a ET run. ;) Going all out everytime will keep you on the trailer. No point in cutting a 1.5 just to trap 120 mph, and blow the tranny up on the next run putting you down for another couple weeks.
All sounds fine...

In a full race car, I would be tempted to remove the entire chassis harness altogether. But that ruins any chance of ever running it on the street pretty much :icon16:
Well that seems about it for what I have done so far, who knows, maybe if I get 9s I might get a wild hair and gut the whole car and see what she can do. I know a guy from Minneapolis that ran 10.4 in a full weight 2g GSX and snapped 4th (664awhp). Hopefully with the aid of nitrous I wont have a problem.
4th gear breaks from turque load alone (and fatigue from that load). Nitrous isn't going to help you there. I would lighten up as much as possible before you start breaking parts. I've spent God only knows how much money just repairing and replacing parts, and none of that money goes to making the car faster. Before long its no longer fun ;) Keep it fun, take out as much weight as you can stand.
Anyways, thanks for any imput and hopefully I have a good year this year, definately taking this bitch to the shootout in August! Also, kevin if you think its near impossible to run DSMlink into the 9s I have been looking at VPC and I'm keeping my mind open for that!
I would much rather run a MAFt and DSMlink than a VPC. But the VPC is proven, so I wont bother starting that conversation again...
Good luck with it. I hope you knock out some good numbers before the car starts to come apart :D Keep us posted.
I'll never make the April season start, I'm just shooting for the shootout :D I'll see you out there. Maybe we can set up a grudge match during time trials. :)

Thanks Kevin!!! Its really early and I need sleep so I will reply to it better tomorrow, but the turbo statement: It has the 3575 compressor wheel in a 3065 compressor housing, center cartrige, turbine and turbine housing. Still ball bearing compared to the 3575 which is not, so thats why it was done like that. $1850 later just for the turbo and this is what I got! lol :icon16: Everything including the WG and O2 ended up being $2300! AHHH What was I thinking?? :uhoh: :eek7: Just for something that blows me! Shit I'd be better off going to State ST for cheaper than that. :smokin:

That turbo sounds like it could have some serious potential--faster spool, but still a big enough compressor wheel to make things worthwhile. Interesting choice...
