Engine noise..

Before it might drop a seat.Anyone know what if any noises they make/have heard?.Other symptoms?
Perfectlly! smooth!! quiet.Great peformance(all 88 h.p.)great cold weather start,performance,fuel mileage.Uses 0/ZERO oil.0/ZERO noise at idle,when revved up.
BUTBUTBUT..under light load from light acceleration from a stop..I can hear what sounds like a slight exhaust leak.Almost a puff../pfft/pfft.I have heard this from exhaust..pipes,manifolds(cracks),gaskets,head gaskets,ALSO from valves that are just beginning to lose their seal..either valves, seats, stems, guides. It could be the sound of exhaust gases leaking in the chamber/port.
At 262,000..it sure has been a great car, motor.
Unless someone can convince me that this is indeed a seat coming out SOON..then I will just keep driving it.When/if the noise progresses to a sound heard at idle. This is pretty much ex.valve/seat leakage.THEN I will deal with it.
Thanks for any ideas!

My 94 did this for two days. Sounded like it was coming from around the intake- a puft puft like a leak. Then, it dropped the #4 seat. Push it real hard, and you'll find out for sure.

Thats the bad thing about valve seats they work or they dont. Anything short of taking a look at them there is not musch you can do. If you do replace them get really good ones, when it comes to this kind of thing what you pay for is what you get.

Welll..the noise got a bit worse.Still was pretty much impossible to determine exactlly where it was coming from.Definitely from the upper right part of the motor though.STILL..NO noise at idle.BUT..NOW it seemed to come and go.Under a variety of conditions.Couldn't pinpoint it/when.Had the noise of an ex. valve/seat going..OR a VERY bad lifter.A month of this.THEN it got worse.STILL not at an idle. But under load..this was now definitely an exhaust leak to air..not internal.Relief.The noise was now starting at an idle.but STILL this damn noise would almost come and go.I was beginning to suspect a crack in the head or ex. manifold. Then I found it missing an ex. man to head stud.Just replaced it with a bolt. While in there..I found that ALL the studs were FINGER tight..
The studs are $37 Cdn because these have a torx head.A nut goes over that..
The noise was an ex.man. to head leak..that the gap OBVIOUSLLY would open, close depending on the heat and load.BECAUSE the ex.man to head studs in the head came loose!
Problem solved..cheap fix.
