the gas light is on all the time full tank or empty. What is going on?

1993 Trooper??
The "low Fuel" level sensors are typically stuck on the side of the gas tank. It will have just one or two wires going to it. The connector is probably dirty.

If your trooper is a second gen then you need a new sending unit. It's a very common problem with the second gens.
