How Do I Take The Water Pump Off!!! Help!!!!

i just got done puttin a aftermarket radiator in my 98gsx eclipse, went pretty smoothly, fill it up with water/antifreeze, start it and notice theres water under my car. its comming from the water pump. i figure its just a seal or something minor, but i have to get the dam thing off before i can do anything. HOW DO I GET IT OFF!!! ive hurd rumors you have to jack the engine up and all kinds of crap. PLEASE HELP!!!! THANKS. BRIAN

It will involve taking off the timing belt...not a super-easy job. I'd make sure that's where the leak is before I tried to tackle it.

so is that the most diffulct part about it, theres no jacking the engine up? im pretty sure thats where its comming from. is there any other place it could be coming from that area??

You have to take off one of the engine support brackets and need to support the engine on that side. Most do it by using a jack and a piece of wood under the oil pan.

yea the drivers side motor mout you will take off formt the engine and mount its self, then you have acces to the timing belt, then you have to remove the crank pully, ect............. the rest you will have to find out yourself because i dont know from there

When jacking up the motor on an AWD to make access to certain bolts a little easier, use the transfer case instead of the oil pan. Its there, might as well use it. Just be gentle, you dont want to crack the case on that. But denting the oil pan will cause much bigger problems ;) GO slow, and dont lif the whole car with it like so many people do. It will hold the weight, but why risk it. If the car starts to lift, back off a bit, thats the highest the motor will get. And remember with upgraded motor mount inserts you will get much less range of motion, sometimes it helps to pull the through bolt on the front motor mount.

At any rate, a water pump is a big job thanks to the timing belt situation. Thats why people automatically change the water pump on a tbelt job, to avoid doing that twice.

I never thought of using the transfer case. It's a good thing i read this post again! Since soon I will have to take all that crap off to put my timing belt cover back on. ( I got a little anxious the night i finished).Don't worry, the car is not on the road so theres no chance of rocks being thrown into the timing belt. It's true what they say: "The lazy man works twice as hard."
