Does anyone now how far you can go on a tank of gas, because you never know with that stupid gas gauage.

I'll bet you own a second gen Rodeo or something. I don't know exactly how far you can go, it depends on many variables.

If you search this forum, there have been countless posts on what causes this, and the fix for it. (Vehicle dependant of course).

I have a 98 Rodeo 5spd V6 4x4.
Gas milage goes between 12-15 mpg depending on my driving habits.

Up to 300 miles per tank (best case) on our 2002 LS 4x4 auto 3.2L. Low fuel light is on steady by that point. Never ran it out of gas to see *exactly* how far we could go. 16gal is usually all it will take. Right around 18mpg is the best we get with mostly hywy driving. Exactly the same as other same class trucks import or domestic.

I have been going about 300 -350, when I fill it at 300 I usually can only fit 17-18 Gallons which says that I have 3-4 left in the tank.

I forgot to mention. I just recenty had my fuel sending unit replaced, aong w/ the PCM reprogrammed. I immediately filled up gas once the light came on and put in 17 gallons, which means the light comes on when you have approx 2 gal of gas left.

Not sure which Isuzu you have but I thought the Rodeo's had a 21 point something gallon tank.

It very much depends...is it all hwy driving?

If so, you'll probably be close to safe. Just ensure that you are close to a gas station when the gas low light goes on.

For a really good test, fill up, reset the tripometer, and put a 5 gallon gas can in the back of the truck when you hit about 150 miles.

At that, you can let it run right down without fear of being stranded.

my 99 v6 consistently gets 15 city 20 highway, 10 around town if I drive heavy around town. you have a 21 gallon tank in the 99, so some basic math, then leave room for error. I've heard some say they go x amount of miles, and then fill up an reset the trip. i think i recall 200 or 250 miles. But if you are doing all city miles, pushing 250 could be a risk. You also have to take into acount if your truck is maitained for top mileage or not (i.e. tire inflation etc.)!

Bought my 95.5 rodeo new in 1996. Has 21.9 gal. tank. 3.2L V6 4WD Automatic. Back then I used to get about 420 miles on one tank. Now I get about 340 miles on one tank. 245,000 miles and still running great, except for the gas mileage.

I just changed my fuel filter on my 1993 4WD, not sure if it made any difference...

i got a 01 passport 2wd and i get around about 212mi until the low fuel light stays on. i did the math and its about 15mpg i do about 50/50 highway and city driving. i really dont hot-rod around town either. its got about 50k miles on it. is there any way i can increse the MPG? at least to maybe the 17mpg?

After reading/replying to this thread, came up with something interesting.

I did a test...I am in Canada, and my 'zu is just as Canadian as I am.

I can get about 400 KM per tank. Now I'm at about 350, on the verge of my gas light firing for sure.

Calcs say:

400KM * 0.6M = 240

That said, my 'zu will run about 240 Miles for a tank, and I average about 13.8 MPG (in this cold, snowy winter season, with about 250Lbs of sandbags in the trunk).

If I was up a bit (15-18) MPG, I'd probably hit near 280 Miles on a tank, but I'm determined to find out now due to this thread whether Canadian vehicles had different sized tanks or not.

best way is too calculate your own using your tripodometer, and see how much you get from your daily driving habits. I get around 15-20, so I know I am safe at 300, if I have been in the city alot then I don't push but I know I get at least 250

Granted I have a 1st Gen., and therefore don't have the fuel sending unit issues, but my low fuel light doesn't come on until about 300 miles on the trip meter (needle almost touching "E"). At 250 mi. of mixed city/highway driving I'm usually right at 1/4 tank and end up averaging about 17 mpg (I'll get ~20 mpg on long trips). That being said, at 212 mi. you have to have a fair bit of gas left in the tank. I'd guess that your fill ups are usually about 13 or 14 gallons, leaving you about 8 remaining.

IMHO posting how many miles you get from a tank of gas is really a useless statement and something that shouldn't be used for comparison. I say this for two reasons. First, unless specified, no one knows if you are saying that your "calculated" mileage limit for a tank of gas is XXX mi or whether you're saying that you get XXX mi. before your fill up. Secondly, if you are referring to how many miles before you fill up everyone has different habits and quirks, one person will fill up at 1/8 tank, other (like myself) try to religiously fill up at 1/4 tank and some (like the GF) seem to think that "E" stands for "enough gas to drive around for a while" and wait until the low fuel light comes on to visit the pump.

MPG is the only really useful numbers that should be getting thrown around in a gas mileage thread. Most of us know tha Rodeos/Passports have a 21-point-something gallon gas tank and Amigos/Rodeo Sports take 17-and-change. A few fill ups and a calcualtor will give you a rough idea of what kind of mileage you're getting and from there it's pretty simple to figure out when you need to fill up based on how much gas you have used/have remaining, assuming your gas gauge doesn't have any idea what's in the tank. Is this fool proof... of course not, but it's better that freaking out thinking your tank is empty after driving 200 mi. Besides, if you're getting 200 or so miles from a tank of gas, your Rodeo has bigger issues than a bad gas gauge.
