Medical info on report cards?

Well we did quite well discussing about the company firing it's employees for smoking. Thought I'd get a new topic out there to debate whether it's right or not. What are your opinions about the news that a Texas lawmaker wants to put children's height and weight on their report cards? This is also commonly called BMI Body Mass Index. It is supposed to help curb childhood obesity, but I think there are much better ways of accomplishing this, not by passing laws like this. And besides I wonder if this is in violation of the new Federal HIPPA regulations governing people's privacy concerning their medical information, and it's disclosure.

i think it's ridiculous. fat kids know they're fat. if i remember elementary school, they get picked by the not fat kids, often. the last thing they need is the teachers and principals telling them they're little fat-asses too. It's just not information that needs to be there. it has nothing to do with academics.

I say do it separately, because grades are something that shows how well you're learning, while your BMI has nothing to do with your report card.

I dont think they should be doing this, Leave the damn people alone if they want to know there BMI they can figure it out themselfs.

ehh i dont really care. I think obesity is disgusting and a big problem in the US, but telling kids they are fat isnt the solution. Maybe they should server healthier meals, more physical fitness, and better teaching about eating right, dieting, avoding fast food, and the dangers of obesity in itself. I dont think i learned about nutrition and how important it is untill high school and by then, the fat kids are pretty much set.

In are high school everday they just sell grease loaded food, pizza, french frys, breadsticks, grease burgers etc etc and we have a very strict P.E/Health policy and they feed the kids this shit.

I'd say that it's never going to happen, but Texass is so fucked up right now I don't even dare to begin pointing fingers and making conjectures based on COMMON SENSE...

That said, I know my school sent home my reports from gym class for the presidential physical fitness series about flexibility and situps, etc. It was sent home, IIRC, whereas our report cards were given to us in school. I was mad my parents had access to it, and I wasn't even very large. I just wasn't extremely physically able when it came to certain things like pull ups. I still am not.
