Starter Niose

Hi. Hopefully someone out there can help he out. I have a 2001 VW GTI VRG, and his starter has just begun to make a quick whinning noise when he is first started. This happens majority of the time he is started, but not every time. It also doesn't matter if it's really cold or a warm day. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks for you help.

If the starter whines or grinds & the engine doesn't turn then the starter is bad. Have it fixed before it damages the flywheel gear.

The starter whines and the engine still starts. My mechanic told me to wait until there is a hesitation when starting, then he would bring me the next day to replace the starter, does this sound right to you?

yeah sounds like your starter is on it's way out... :eek: ..they do whine slightly but not loud enough to notice above engine noise.
