i'v got a 88 prelude 4ws si it is usally very good to me but when i leave it in the sun on a very hot day for too long it won't start for about 15 mins is this because of the short ram air intake breathing hot air or maybe a imobiliser problem ?

So nothing happens when you turn the key? Or does the engine turn over but won't start? If it turns over but won't start I'd guess it's a faulty starter relay. I've heard about a test you can do (I haven't tried it) , spray freon (from a can of compressed air held upside-down) into the steering column thru the ignition. The freon is supposed to cool the relay switch enough to make it start. If that works you know it's the relay - remember I haven't tried this so I don't know how well it works.

I looked it up for you.It is behind the right side of the dash underneath the carpet. It is called PGM-relay or fuel cut relay.Every dealership I have worked at called it the main relay.I think it is about 60.00$ at the dealership. If you get an aftermatket one just don,t get the cheap parts. It calls for .6hr to replace. If you get it done they will probaly charge about an hour.I hope this helps.Carl

hold your horses man, i thought the starter relay is what turns on the starter. engine wont turn over if the starter is faulty. and starter wont turn over if the starter relay is faulty. you need to guess something else that is faulty

My reply is for cranks but won,t start. You are right if it does,t crank at all then the main relay is NOTthe problem.I misunderstood the complaint. Carl

Next time it happens this is how we would check the 90-93 accords.I think the older preludes were the same but I am not postive.
When you turn the key on,not to start but on were the instrument lights all come on.Look for the check engine light. If it is not on cycle the key back and forth a couple of times untill you see the light. If the light doesn,t come on the main relay is problay your problem. When you see the light it should start up.Unless like you said ,could be your alarm.Carl
