I have a 2004 T/C and the check engine light just came on (solid not flashing). The service manual says that if not flashing it is ok to drive, however, I can hear what sounds similar to a pump or servo frozen (light hum). There is no noticable driving differences. The sound that I hear can be heard "winding down" when I shut the vehicle off. This noise could have been there for ever and I just haven't heard it because I haven't had a reason to listened for a problem. Gas cap is not damaged. It just started raining here in Az., could it be a wet emission sensor? Any ideas will be appreciated.

go to an autozone or advance auto part and have them pull up the code; you won't be able to find out what the code is unless you have a scanner yourself. As far as the humming sound you hear, that's just the fuel pump; it's normal doesn't mean that it's about to quit on you.

If you need further clarification, I created a thread in the Intrepid forum to help people w/ OBD II cars understand what the codes mean and where to go from there. Here's the link: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=355082

The hum is probably just the cooling fans running . I have a 2004 and the fans seem to run more than my 96 Voyager did . Possible you left the gas cap loose the last time you filled up ? If this is case it should go out in a few starts . When filling up make sure the cap clicks at least once .
