I'm helping a friend install a 1978 vintage 305 wih 350 auto in a a 12 passengher snowmobile. The installation is straight forward and a new basic wiring harness was installed. I don't have the self energizing regulator to make it a one wire. Can I just jump #2 to the big battery with a short shunt and take #1 straight to the ignition? There is no red alt light with 10 ohms wired in at present but they do have an ammeter wired in. Some fellows here just wire it to the solenoid so it gets enough to exite it on startup, which I guess is ok as long as you put a diode in to prevent a reverse charge that engages the starter later! Any comments appreciated.

I ended up wiring to ignition through a indicator light and all works well.
