Alright, Im thinking of getting 3 new subs for my car for loud and hard hittin tight bass, its a 96 Cavalier,to replace my two 12's Ive got right now and was wonderin what i should go with. I want to get 2 12's and 1 15 in a custom fiberglassed box and the 15 aimed straight up out of the spare tire hole.
The 2 12's fiberglassed up above the 15 but toward the front alil and angled toward the trunk and up and in and then (3 amps dependin on amp size and sub handleing) fiberglassed in areas.....pic below
http://img146.exs.cx/img146/7879/untitled3qg.jpg
i just need some ideas for the subs the stereo shop i go to will help with the amps but if you want to throw in ideas you can.
Budget: 0-1000 for all three subs possibly
thanks to all the audio people.

don't get different sizes........... I'd say go with two NICE 15's for that budget. 2 brahma or avalanche 15's (I'm assuming your going sealed w/ the fiberglass).... a pair of rl-P 15's would be pretty damn nice too.

alright so two 15's.....that would be pretty damn loud.....what site can i find these both types of those subs at?

Get 4 JL W7 13's. Or 2 XXX 15"s and tear out your backseat for the enclosure and then get 2 Cadence ZRS-9s and master/slave them. Screw price, just get what will literally destroy your vehicle the second it hits a low note at high volume.

It's a no go on the brahmas......... they're backordered and will be for a long long time. If you want straight up loudness get a pair of SX's (they will still sound good tho). If you want unbeatable sound quality and a setup that will still get rediculously loud go with the avalanches. Remember tho its all in the install so you'll need a VERY good install.

Just got these new items from DEI. Loaded a pair of 12" subs in a sealed box. Including the displacement of the woofer, each sub has .8cu/ft. Man do this things like to rumble!!!! I haven't put it on a mic but I know they are easily in the mid 140's and they work great below 30htz. Can't wait to see everyone's take on these!!!!

well... i dotn have any experience with these subs.. and this is just a guess based on what ive read about these subs, but id say:
SPL: (pretty sure about this)
1) SX
2) XXX
3) Avalanche
SQ) (XXX and avalanche might switch..)
1)Avalanche
2) XXX
3) SX
so basically.. XXXs would probably be your best bet if you want the mix.. BUT keep in mind you need a TON of power for these subs(meaning more $ for amps and elec system), and they cost the most out of all the subs listed... so im not sure if they would be worth all that extra money.
SXs would be really loud and if you listen to only rap then they might fit pretty well.. but my CVR is pretty loud and i kinda wish i wouldve spent a little more for SQ.. so personally i would go with the avalanches.. theyll sound swesome and im pretty confident theyll get loud enough to hurt your ears, and you shouldnt need more than that unless you plan to compete.

SX is louder than XXX. and this i know for sure cause its been tested. i think even the guys at RE say that its like over 1db louder at every freq. and i think its more than that at a certain freq... cant remember what i read but im pretty sure that im right that the SX is louder..
and as far as the SQ you might be right but i think they would be close enough to call a tie

4 would blow your car appart...just to let you know
an xxx15 is capeable of ~145dB tops in a ported enclosure. it has 32mm one way xmax.
that woofer has 60mm+ one way xmax. does that mean it is capeable of 290dB? no. but that does mean it is capeable of probably into the 150-155dB range. 4 would be compeating with the 9 15's SPL monster class dragers are using. and it would take significantly less wattage. this is basiclaly a scaled down parthenon with surrond and basket. i like how someone over on soundillusions said it.
"and its ONLY moving 4-5 inches P2P there. we still have about another 3/4 to go"

i still think you should get one of thoes bad boys once they are out. it should be less than $1000 or right around there $1700 tops. its XBL^2 which means awsome SQ and with 1000-2000w it would be at least 3-6dB louder than two SX's

LOL you crack me up man 2 SX's off the same power will murder any single 15 I can think off CONE AREA. And SPL has VERY LITTLE to do with your subs. Those new ones will not be hitting 150's or anywhere close in a daily setup. More like 145 TOPS for the 15 and that's in a DAMN good install fully powered. and an XXX15 does not do a 145 in most installs and yes it can be louder then a 145 I'm sure someone could EASILY crank a 150 outa one in an SPL setup. Its all in the install.

:) 4 wouldn't blow a car apart, it would sound good and be really loud (if properly powered and installed). You can NEVER say the absolute maximum decibels of a subwoofer. Many people have hit over 150dB's with a XXX in an SPL, I'll being trying to do so myself soon. These subs are in NO WAY "SPL monsters", they are XBL^2 enabled, and juat have a shitload of throw so they will have great output! If someone uses them in an SPL install, they would be dumb...b/c of many reason which i could elaborate on more if asked to do so. In no way is it similar to the parthenon. Also the "someone" who said it over at siN was David, part (?) owner of RE.

Well, when you use a tall rubber surround (chosen over treated foam in this high excursion application) you get something call a dimpling effect. This is no way hinders performance, it's just the rubber doing it's thing as the cone WANGS! Lol, look at the Image Dynamis IDMax, it does the same thing...as will eD's A v.2 if it ever comes out. It's a side effect of the high excursion and type of surround.
i dunno, but i wouldnt expect a surround capeable of 6" P2P to look ant better.
It won't be capable of 6" p2p. SUPPOSEDLY, it's capable of 4.75" p2p, could be a little exagerrated, we'll soon see. But, linearity wise...it'll be less obviously. And no where near 6" p2p...

It will DEFINITELY be less than $1000 MSRP...can't speak of how much it will be direct. Also can't speak of what it will be named, and what other things will happen. :) :( It will need 2kw+ from what has been said. And again, there's NO way to say how much louder it will be than any other driver...keep in mind the SX is louder than the current XXX, 1.4dB's louder to be exact in David's testing.
So, there's TONS of things that will be happening with NUMEROUS companies in the next 6 months. Be looking out especially in the next 2-3 months...you'll be happy and surprised! peace

It 2 XXX 15's can make door hinges crack in more SPL oriented set ups...id hate to see what 4 of thoes would do. Maybe like Scottie's, what was it 9 brahma's, cracking his door frame completely in half. (BTW did he switch to XXX's now?) I was just giving a roudn about estimate of what your aveage guy can extract form the XXX. 145, or there bouts is what your average guy gets from an XXX. in SQL set ups ive seen 135-140. Im hoping 140 when i want it to go that far from my 18 once i get it and get The Beast. im hoping 130-135 with the Hifonics amp. i may buy two instead of the beast and wire them master/slave to get a sapposed 3600w but probably sitting more near 2800-2900.
Surface area*excursion is what matters in SPL, not just surface area.
someone said 5 3/4 is what thoes surrounds are capeable of doing. which is right about where the motor on it stops pushing. which dimpleing isnt a bad thing but it isnt good either. it may effect sound a TAD if it isnt very loud but not audiable at the levles most surrounds start dimpleing. mostly it is just ugly. plus that is a pretty old video, they may have done some tweaking to that surroud after that vid. of course JL never dimples....:cough:
but i will tell you this, i wouldnt want to sit in a car with 4 of thoes even 12's or 10's.

really excursion and SD has very little to do with SPL its all about the install. And yea i was checkin out that door this weekend when I was at Scotties definately still cracked in half...... No he doesn't have xxx's he's running 12 RE MT 12's in a wall in a new van off of 28 MA Audio HK4000d's and a shitload of yellow tops......its loud to say the least. That's a diff van then the brahma van BTW...... the brahma Van is being retired and sold w/o the brahmas. ohh and those weren't bahmas they were brahma extremes.

And still there is NO WAY you can EVER estimate the SPL level of just subwoofer. This weekend at Scottie's, me and Mike messed around on the TL with mike's install. With around 400rms he hit a 138.3 LEGAL with 2 12" seXXX's, outlaw with one door open and the sensor on the floor Mike did a 140 flat. So, i'm gonna drive into your guys head again ;) IT'S ALL IN THE INSTALL!
Gaurantee ya i could get my 18XXX over 150, and I bet you with my daily install it's well above 145 :)
Also...If someone uses them in an SPL install, they would be dumb...b/c of many reason which i could elaborate on more if asked to do so.
I can elaborate if you want, clarify and add on to a few points Mike touched on.
