can someone explain to me what the alcohal injection and propane injection does. Ive heard a lot about it and its kinda frustrating when you dont know what it is. (i like to think im not as stupid as some of my questions are) :)

water/alcohol injection is a system that cools down the air inducted into your engine. basically, its a simple system that injects a fine mist of a water/alcohol misture in your air stream to cool down the air. the cooler the air, the more air, which means more fuel and eventually more power.

it also allows a person to raise the boost level on a FI car and runner higher boost without detonation. this is of course if the fuel system can provide enough fuel....

propane injections i will let someone else explain because i dont know too much about it, but i think it may be a diesel engine thing.

Yeah Propane injection is for diesel trucks. It serves the same purpose nitros does in a gasoline engine.

Nope, nitrous is a power adder...you shoot nitrous, you gain hp. Propane doesn't add hp, it is used to retard early detonation aka knock.
Propane has an octane rating upwards of 110+, when used, it allows you to run higher levels of boost without running too lean. It basically is like running race gas on the street.

It isn't a power adder like nitrous, and it isn't reserved solely for diesels.

Do diesels get early spontaneous combustion too? I know how they work but I've never heard of diesels needing to prevent knock.

yeah they get detonation as does any cumbustion engine but diesel is alot better burner than regular gasoline, especially US gasoline as we get the crap of the crap. :D

Modern desiels do not get knock, in fact is imposble for them to get it, however in the diesel world you add fuel to gain power, and add boost to lower EGT's so you dont melt anything.

Alochol/water is used to cool the intake charge, and is done so because of the energy it takes to cover a liquid to a gas.

Propain does not cool the intake, instead it up's the octane and allows for more boost. It is also an extra fuel so it can be used when you are at the limits of your current fuel system, or when you need more octane, however you want to set it up.

My laptop bettery is almost dead or I would go more into detail.

It's not impossible for desiels to knock unless you are talking about direct injection desiels.

The combustion is essentially one controlled knock since the conbustion starts when the air is compressed to the point where it is hot enough to ignite the fuel and therefore does not require a spark plug.

On direct injection desiels the fuel is only added after the air has been compressed so there isn't any fuel to pre-ignite when the air is being compressed (IE before the piston has hit it's highest point).

The rattle you hear in diesel truck engines is actually engine knock.

Just an FYI since we really don't care about this in gasoline cars...
