You have a 4L60E Transmission. I don't know what transfercase you have or even if there are different ones for that year. I don't do a whole lot of work on 4x4's.

Do you know the RPO codes for transmissions for 88-98 trucks?

I know everything before 93 is supposed to have the 700-R4, and then 93-up has 4L60E. I have a 92, but its a late 92 model (assembled March 92).

The easiest way to tell is look at the electrical connector and see how many wires are on it. If there are only 4 there it is a 700r4 if it is a bundle, it's a 4L60E.

If you have previously driven both a 4L60E and a 700R4 truck, you can tell the difference by how hard the gas pedal pushes. The 700R4 has a throttle valve cable attached to the tbi unit. The transmission has a spring that pulls on the cable and makes the pedal harder to push. The 4L60E has no throttle cable. I know this well because when I changed out my 700R4 for a 5-speed manual I put my cranium in the head rest several times before I got used to the easier pushing gas pedal. The wires everyone is speaking of will be evident when you look at the driver side of the transmission. The 4L60E will have around 15-20 wires or more, whereas the 700R4 will have maybe three. The three on the 700R4 are for the lockup torque convertor.

It's definetly a 700R-4 then, lol. Very stiff gas pedal.

I just thought maybe since it was a late model 92, then GM may have slipped the 4L60E.

The three on the 700R4 are for the lockup torque convertor.

These aren't the ones that are in a four pin square style connector are they?? Because if so I can't get that little pin to quite snap into place so I dont know if it works, I know that a shift kit was installed but how can I tell if the lockup torque converter is working? When it shifts into fourth gear (i have no tach so go with me) it should be at a certain rpms, and then it should kind of drop a little a couple seconds later right??

Transfer case should be NP-241
