ok i called a local shop and this guy looked my engine up(420a) and said its a 3.5 hour job just to replace the vavle cover gasket so he said i was lookin at $250 in labor alone,,does this sound normal because i thought it was really high,i know its rather easy to do but i dont want to attempt it cuz i know the gasket has to be perfect so let me know if this sounds normal

the only thing to it is getting over the fear of having to pry the valve cover off the cylinderhead if its stuck with a pry bar, flat head screw driver, and a rubber mallet. other then that, its a 20 min job if you've done it a time or two.

Yeah man you can pick up a valve cover gasket for under 20 bucks. I would do it yourself like they said its a easy enough job. Whoever quoted you 250 just for labor is out of there mind! That should be 25 in labor maybe lol
EDIT- Ok for a Felpro Valve Cover Gasket Autozone wants 17.99. Permatex will be another 2-3 bucks.

Wow, and I thought my dealership was a rip off. They wanted $100.00 for labour (gasket included). They said it would be a half hour job, so I just did it myself.
That 100 bucks is Canadian dollars too so its like 70 US.

easy but remember that to tourque the bolts it's inch pounds not foot pounds read the faq and take your time. The cool thing about it is, while you got the valve cover off you can polish, powdercoat, or paint it. just another reason to dress up your ride. Do it yourself it pays.

:eek7: WoW... I did my friends car last summer when he was working because it was his B-day. I took the cover off, sanded it down, covered the lettering with tape, painted it blue, changed the plugs, changed the valve cover gasket and the 4 little ring gaskets all under an hour. the gasket itself and the rings would've taken me 20 minutes at most. (Though I was rushing) which I don't recommend you do. lol
