Im an American and noticed that many if not most on this forum are from Australia so I have a question. Does anyone ever have their license place made to be Caulfield on their Holden's, or ever name them Caulfield? Not sure if many will get this since sadly most over here havent read CITR and I dont know if it's any different in Australia. Thanks for your help.

:iamwithst That's so bad it's funny...lol. I'm in the US so I have no idea, but that's so rediculous it'd probably work.

Just add 16 hours and you'll know what time it is in Australia. At the moment......429am on Feb 11.

I know someone who named her Honda "Fenry"...get it? Fenry Honda...Henry Fonda...forget it, that's even worse than a Holden named Caufield.

CITR was required reading when I was in junior high school (middle school). It was enjoyable enough but not something I would have picked to read on my own despite its great "literary value".

What the fuck is this thread about?
Catcher In The Rye by J.D.Salinger is a brilliant piece of literature, ahead of its time when first published in 1951. Australians of that era were not particularly big on literature, but were highly moralistic, and the language and themes of this particular novel were enough to get it banned in parts of the US, and the whole of Australia.
This uptight attitude has occasionally resulted in downright embarrassment. Australian customs officers seizing copies of JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye in 1960 discovered, too late, that the books were a gift to the government from the US ambassador.

you're a dickhead.
Well, hard to tell, but anyone who has read CITR should not be dismissed after their first four posts.Welcome to AF,onetoolfan.Holden Caulfield may well be the leading character in a pivotal piece of American literature, but the avarage Aussie doesn't read a lot, and the average Holden owner even less.Ask them a literary question and they'll assume that you're a smart alec.

Thank you taranaki. For answering my question exactly, for explaining what I was badly trying to ask, and for sticking up for me. I appreciate it.

Apologies - you're not a dickhead. I can't beleive you think our national sense of humour is so appalling someone would actually consider doing that. Or the fact that the longest license plate in Australia is 6 characters.

You can get seven in NT,
don't forget that.

Yeah, but what's the point? No one from NT can read.
