Hey all. I wanna say this is my first post on AF (if it isn't I don't remember when i did, it's been that long since i signed up). I've been thinking about getting a 2g DSM, either GSX or TSi AWD, and I had a question that i'm hoping doesn't start series of arguements. I realize both are the same car mechanically, but i was wondering if those of you who have a Talon ever regretted going with it over an Eclipse? I would prefer not to get the Talon if I'm gonna regret going with it over the other and was wondering if anyone else had the same problem. The big thing is from what i've seen online, Talons are just so much cheaper in comparison. Thanks for any and all replies.

If i were you i'd go with the GSX...There's no difference between the two really except body's....(i think). Personally I like the look of the GSX a lot more than a TSi.

I agree. But if it's really that much cheeper to go with the Talon, just do a eclipse front and rear end conversion and it's basically the same thing. I dont know why but I really just wanted mine to be a Mitsubishi. My GSX is coming in 2 days!!!!!!!

the talon will be cheaper on insurance just because it's domestic. the front end conversion won't be very hard (headlights and bumper) but the rear conversion is a little more difficult. you have to move a bracket and then get a different wiring harness. also new taillights will be needed.

Where did you get your GSX from? I'm having a little trouble finding a good one on autotrader.

I would go with the talon. There's lots of eclipses all over the place, so the talon is different. I love my talon... just want a TSi

It all depends on what you like! If you want to pimp out your car externally go with the Eclispe, if you want it just for engine power, go with the Talon. Because you'll find alot more aftermarket parts for an Eclipse thatn a Talon, but they both have the same 420A engine!

everything on the cars are the same except for the bumpers and taillights. the only trouble you'll have with a talon to eclipse swap is a bracket in the back and the taillight wiring harnesses. that's it. although it's not very tough, it's more than just direct replacement.

I'd go with the Talon. The Talon is cheaper to buy and insure than thw Eclipse an you're not scacrificing performance. So it all lies doen to style, whether you like the styling of an Eclipse or Talon.

Where did you get your GSX from? I'm having a little trouble finding a good one on autotrader.

I found it on Craigslist, which is just kind of an online classifieds for San Francisco. I live all the way in Seattle, WA though so it was a bitch getting it. I looked for TWO WHOLE YEARS, almost every single day and I had to finally go two states away to get one. But I'm glad I waited. It's silver with black leather, 5 spd, got 47k original miles, basically no mods, driven by a girl, and it was hardly every used too. I paid a little more than I have though ($11,000) so I'm gonna have to work it off or something. You should have more of them in Florida though. There are NONE here. Oh also, fyi cars on Autotrader are usually pretty overpriced.

Hey Joe nice car btw.

Oh my god, that is the best looking talon i have seen. Personally i think that both cars look nice. It all depends on what you do to the car to make it a nice ride.

Joe, I like the way the car is white with black on top balance by the black (or dark color) on the wheels. I didnt see/notice that before... Pretty sharp.

I sometimes wish I had saved some cash and gone the talon route. But I was still a ricer when I bought my car over 5 years ago. :icon16:

Kevin.. YOU were a ricer? I bought a civic for crying out loud.. I wish now that I had saved just 5k more and gone the Eclipse/Talon route.

It all boils down to personal preference. Personally, I like the look of the Talons better, but the Eclipses still look good too. There are just so many Eclipses in my area, and majority of them are riced beyond recognition. A Talon will be cheaper on insurance and overall price, and that will leave you more to put into the engine. :iceslolan

Craigslist ROCKS. I was looking to get a 2G red with black top stick GS-T spyder. Mine was the same thing, just a GS though. I came accoss red autos, some were stick but with a tan top, some were GREEN (yuk) etc etc. Anyway, I surfed craigslist and saw this guy selling an unmodded 97 with the same miles as me. I traded in my 98 4G64, kept the rims, gave him $500. Craigslist is pretty cool, I'd definitly browse those posting once in a while.

Lol, never thought I would hear Kevin chime in on a non-peformance, non-problem diagnosis thread--especially one about looks! :p I agree that the balance does look pretty damn good on this car. The guy did a great job with cosmetics, and his fmic only cost $300 or so all told :icon16:

But you did see this, right Kevin?
Yeah, that car isn't mine, it's RJ Davis's from DSMtuners. I am looking to do basically the same thing to my car--with different wheels. He just beat me to it! Now he runs an EvoIII 16g, but I had it on my car before him, I think :p

98 4g64? Don't think so.

The 4G64 is the engine in the non-turbo spyder.

Quick photoshop of what my car would look like with a drop and 2gb front bumper ;) Don't mind that I had to PS the centercaps on my wheels--the only side-pic I have of my car with these wheels was before I found lug nuts that would fit under the center caps :p

I know this is off topic but can someone please give me some tips on buying from dsmtrader? I was going to use Paypal but I have read some VERY bad things about them. So I was just going to use my credit card to pay him but then I have no idea how I would do that.

hey dude forget what everybody else said. if you dont know me, i like to get down to the nitty gritty or leave it alone. so here's the breakdown, performance:no real difference. Design: now this this what matters, DO YOU IMAGINE A BETTER LOOKING ECIPSE OR TALON. WHICH WILL GET YOU MORE COOL POINTS? BUT KEEP IN MIND CHICS NEVER HEARD OF A TALON. based on ear it sounds like a old 80's reject. chics will dig the eclipse Price: the talon is cheaper, but remember price is no substitue for happiness. That was the breakdown from the one and only musicman181. hola at ya boy and tell me what you decide. piece up AIG TOWN down

I got my GReddy 24r from dsmtuners. Good communication is the key. I was emailing and calling the guy back and forth for about 3 weeks before I figured out I could trust him. PayPal'd him $550, and I got my intercooler soon after... if the guy sounds shiesty over the phone, or lags on returning emails, you may want to think it over.
