Mazda waterlogged

Hi everyone. My son has a 1990 Mazda 323 and he decided to clean the engine. He degreased it and sprayed it off with water. Of course he did not cover any electrical. The car will not start. I took the distributer apart and water came running out. The distributer is not getting electrical charge from the coil. The main wire to the distributor is not giving off any spark when I turn the key. Something shorted out between the battery and the distributor. The starter works.
Does anyone have an ideas what I should do.
