Blower of Climate Control Out

I have a 1990 Civic Sedan, 130K miles. The climate control blower recently went out. Whether on A/C, heater, or fan only nothing comes out of the vents. I checked the under dash fuses and all seem intact. Is there a faulty switch, relay, or the motor itself that's bad? How do I find out? Thanks.

run some wires to the fan motor from the battery or another 12v source and see if it works that way if it wont turn you know its the motor

Good Idea. Is the battery a 12v? Because if so I was thinking i'd run the jumper cables from the battery terminals to the blower motor and test it that way...i don't wanna fry anything by doing this if i'm mistaken in this assumption though. Thanks.

lol, same exact thing (and you have a car similar to mine) happened to my civic. Blower motor will not turn on. When you have the ac switch on, it'll turn blue like the a/c is on, but the blower motor i think is shot. You hafta take off the glove compartment and then the evaporator to get to the blower motor. They can be found pretty cheap, so it shouldn't be too bad to replace.

I also checked my fuse, and it was still good. So i think tomorrow or saturday imma take it apart and see if the blower turns on when i give it some voltage

Hey that looks like my car! Same color too! lol. I'm going to do the same this weekend. Looks like I have to back order the blower motor as neither Autozone nor the dealship has it in stock. I'll see if I can find a junkyard before this weekend and get one for cheap. Let me know how your repair project goes.

sweet, whats ur email? and what's your plans for the car :) But here, if you use EbAy.com i found a blower motor for $10 plus shipping:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7953141203&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

maybe you could use that if you don't find one at junkyard!

omg! i went to carquest today and picked up a new blower motor for about $60. I took off the glove box, and the panel behind it, and i took every bolt off the blower motor housing that i could possibly find and it still will NOT come out :( I even unbolted the blower motor itself to try and get it out from below the housing, and there's not enough space for the whole thing to come out. I've spent hours trying to work with it, but i'm pooped. I think i'll try some more in the morning and see if i can get it to work. Anyone have any ideas or have replaced the blower motor before? Any help would be appreciated :)

I can't wait to get the dang thing in so i can blow some air!

I won't be able to replace mine this weekend. I have heard that it's a bitch to replace and that it's sometimes easier to replace that entire blower assembly behind the glove box with the motor housing and all rather than try to fish the motor itself out. I dunno, i'll have to give it a go...not looking forward to it though given what i've heard, but i need to have air before summer; i've been sucking it up and driving with chattering teeth so far this winter.

yeah me too, even though i live in florida lol :) But it's going to get hottt soon so i need to get that motor out! I think i'll try and take out the evaporator today, and see if maybe then i'll have enough room to wiggle the motor out. I hope i never have to do this again lol!

yay! i was able to get the motor out, clean the fan some, and then replace the motor with the new one i got from carquest for $60 bux! It was hard as heck to pry the motor out, and then pry it back in with some screw drivers etc. Thankfully i didn't have to take the evaporator out, so that saved some time. It was still a pain in the bum to do though, if it goes out again i'll pay someone to do it lol. Had to pull up some carpet to get enough space to work with, but I saw the flashing light thingy for the ECU - never seen it before so now i know where it is so i learned something new ^_^ It only flashes when the check engine light is on correct?

I hope you'll have a better time than i had with it. Make sure to have someone with you, you could use an extra hand holding something in place while pulling on something else.

Total time was about 4-5 hours, which included diagnosing the fuse, checking for voltage, taking out all the bolts, trying to figure out what to do, and finishing the job. I wish honda would've made it easier to get to, at least to replace just the motor itself since it just falls out of the housing - but there's no space for it to fall lol.

This is an all day project.
