Mazda 6 Keyless Entry Remote Programming?

Does anyone have confirmed programming instructions for the Mazda 6? The remote appears to be the same as the Mazda Rx8, but the programming instructions aren't crossing over from the Rx8 to the 6.

This is what I found on the MazdaWorld site, can anyone confirm?
Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.
Step 2: Lock and unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door.
Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.
Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.
Step 5: Open and close the drivers door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).
Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.
Step 7: Press any button on remote #1. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.
Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.
Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Uhh...i don't think that will work..the 6 doesn't have a elec' key.

That is the correct procedure except you have to press any button on the remote 2 times. If you want to do multiple remotes just press any button twice on each before removing the key.

I just want to say "THANK YOU!" for the reprogramming instructions for the remote key for the MX - 6. At first, I thought they were a joke when reading them (i.e. on off, on off, on off, open close, open close, open close).
I am happy to say they worked beautifully (it did require two presses of the remote). I am curious if anyone knows why both remotes stopped working? The car is only 1 year old. They worked after reprogramming, so I suspect it isn't a battery issue in the remotes or the car. If anyone knows, I'm curious. Thanks again.

I got this to work all the way up until pressing the button twice, the doors didn't seem to respond and lock and unlock at this point. Once i took the key out it did but the remote did not work. I have already tried replacing the battery and attempted to program a different remote for the car. Any ideas on what to try next or why it will not respond?

By doing that same procedure but instead 3 times on and off and open and close, do it four times, this is to confirm that the keyless entry sistem is working properly, you shoul see the locking and unlocking, lights flashes, the trunks pumps out open and the horn sounds, if your car does all these things the sistem is ok, that means you should get new remotes, otherwise if the car does not do anything of these, your keyless entry sistem is damaged or you could have only a blown fuse, check for that first, it is the cheapest part.

So I did the programming instructions and the car responded until I got to Step 6 at which when I pressed any button once (I also tried it twice) nothing happened. When I took the key out of the ignition the locks responded by turning off and on but when I tried to lock and/unlock my car nothing happened. I changed the batteries in both my remotes and they both quite working at the exact same time.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be the fuse or I am doing something wrong?
PLEASE HELP and I will be forever grateful :)
Thanks so much!

Ok, those steps i gave you was to diagnose the keyless entry system, and you told me the car did lock, unlock, turn the lights on, pop the trunk and sounded the horn, that means the keyless entry of the car is working perfect. In those instructions you found i have never done the second step, then from step 3 to 6 is the same i did always but in the step 7 i press the UNLOCK BUTTON TWICE, then the same for second transmitter and step 9 is the same i did. If still does not work contact me as soon as you can, i have access to the Mazda official site and i can download the instructions. But those are the steps i always do for Mazda 6, RX-8, Mazda3 and Mazda 5 transmitter programming. Good luck and sometimes id did not work the first time, sometimes i have to try about 5 times. If the first time does not work, close the car with the key then open it again with the key and try again, or remove the key and wait 30 seconds and try again. Good luck!

Hi!
I've got the same issue.
Tried all things in this thread, at last yours, but when i'm at step 8, by pressing keys on SECOND key, nothing happens, i mean the ECU not locks & unlocks the doors.tried with any key,and the double unlock too.
tried the 4 times on/off, doors cole/open, but nothing happens but the doors locked and unlocked at the 3rd door opening.but no horn,or etc...
but the car is perfectly working eith the first/master key...
any ideas?
thank you

Ok dude, the first step is to test the keyless entry system of the car, doing the on/off and open/close drivers door four times, if the rke system of the car locks, unlocks the doors, flash the lights (don't remember if is 2 or 3 times), opens the trunk (unless hatch back) and horn sounds, the rke system of the car is working properly. Then close the car and lock the doors, wait 40 seconds, open the drivers door, on/off switch 3 times, in the third time leave the switch off, close/open drivers door 3 times and leave it open, when the doors locks and unlocks by itself press the UNLOCK BOTTON TWICE OF EACH TRANSMITTER, if the transmitters are ok they should be programmed. If not try again a few times, sometimes is not done by the first time. Then let me know!

GTIduffer - Please don't give useless or otherwise wrong information! Seriously, there's no way you got it to work by just turning the battery the other way, because the battery goes in with the plus side facing up, not down - it even says on the circuit board!
Everyone else who is giving good constructive help, PLEASE HELP ME!
Okay, so I was able to go through and complete everything up through Step 6 - and I got the proper response (doors lock and unlock). However, whenever I go past this step, whether I am pressing the remote button once, twice, three times or four times, I get no response (doors lock/unlock). What am I doing wrong? But when I continued past with no response, and I removed the key from ignition, I got the proper response. WHAT GIVES??!?
Please help me solve this problem, as it is unbelievably annoying!

Mazda6ownr- GTIduffer might be on to something. I tried flipping the battery myself after trying to fix my Keyless Entry Remotes for over a year now with no response from the ECU before. Once I flipped the battery on the remote, I go through all the steps and upon the first press of a button on the remote the trunk pops open and the horn starts going off. Sadly, the remotes still aren't working though. This has to be the single most aggravating thing to ever go through. I miss being able to turn off my alarm from inside when it goes off during thunderstorms, or when motorcycles set the alarm off, I look like a fool running down the street to turn the alarm off.

Thanks very much for the flawless 9 step instructions! I also read them and thought it was some "secret handshake" and I was being filmed by Candid Camera! But it worked like a charm. Now I'm dying to know what caused it to happen-- a built in bug to force people in for servicing at a dealership? The "interweb" and the power of crowds to the rescue again!

thanks, worked like a charm on my 2006 MAZDA 6 S.
My remote stopped working this morning. After replacing the battery, it still would not work. I called the dealership to inquire how to re-sync the remote to my car, since the light on the remote was still working. The service technician informed me that "you would need to bring in the car for that and have us hook it up to our computer and HOPEFULLY it would re-sync". Well, needless to say, he was wrong. Thanks alot for the how-to.

Have the problem with my remotes, neither will do anything with the ECU when I attempt to program them. They worked before and then just started acting up. Have done the check on the system by turning on/off the car 4 times and opening/closing 4 times and the doors locked unlocked, trunk opened and horn went off. But still will not get a response when I press the unlock or any other button when programming. Does anyone have any ideas of whats up. I see others had the same problem last year. Did it get resolved? Help anyone!!!

i believe it is 3 times each on the ignition and the doors. if you are still having issues, try disconnecting the battery, give it 30 minutes, reconnect battery and try the fix again.

I have done it 3 times each (the 4 time thing was a diagnostic to test the keyless system I was told). Everything worked like it should except for the remote, it doesn't do anything when I press the unlock or lock button when I get to that step. I have done it numerous times, I have done it slow and have done it with two different remotes. I have verified the remotes and have changed batteries. Could it be that I have two faulty remotes? I don't want to buy another one if I don't have to. The biggest problem is that I am in the military and stationed overseas. The Mazda dealership here told me that they don't deal with this type of keyless entry system. So I am stuck like chuck. Thanks in advance.

I was dealing with a dealership on trying to get them to reprogram our keyless entry and they kept putting me off. After over a month long battle I got on the internet and tried to get a quote to just have it done and came across this site. We immediately went outside and started trying to program the key. It was 10:30 p.m. and we were setting off the alarm and everything else. We decided to go to a parking lot to keep from waking the neighbors, this is where a stranger helped us figure out turning off the alarm. After losing all of our nerves on the alarm we tried several suggestions from this page. Around 4 tries and a couple of different ways (a half an hour later) we got it to work. We were so stoked and cannot wait to tell the dealership how useless their service department is!!! Thank you everyone!!! :)))

Okay, so I am tenacious, if nothing else, and I tried the 9 step fix over 30 times and no response from the remote. Every other part responded as stated. Tried the diagnostic (4 turns of the key) and got all the popping, honking, etc, so the systems is working, just not the remotes. They worked fine for over a year since I bought the car and one day, no happy clicking sound when I went to unlock my doors. Tomorrow, I will try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to see if this helps. I will be sure to post if it has any positive effect. No news is bad news here! Any other suggestions would be wonderful!:runaround:

Your remote may have somehow gotten water damage or might have just worn out. It sounds like the vehicle is responding to entering programming mode, and if the batteries are new, the remote(s) itself may just need replacing.

Thanks, works like a charm. Even on an AU spec car.
Couple of things, I found you needed to lock unlock with the key first.
And if you have one working remote and one 'dud' you need to reprogramme both at the same time.
But otherwise great, just saved $60 for 30 seconds work.

After some further research it appears that this function can be disabled (by the dealer) within the cars ECU firmware set up. This is sometimes done if the car has a hire or lease history, where the owner does not want unauthorised remote and key programming. Or of course the dealer wants to rip you to programme the remotes...
In this case you have no option other than to get the dealer involved.

Have you tested your remote, Goalieman?
Radioshack and most Auto Parts stores have simple RF testers where you can press a button on the remote and the tester will light up or beep to indicate it is receiving a signal from the remote.
If your car responds by signalling programming mode is entered but the remote will not respond - you may have
- the wrong remote type
- faulty remote
- dead batteries

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me. I've lost the remote to my 2002 Mazda 6. I want to get a replacement from eBay and program it myself however I want to make sure I am buying the correct part number.
As far as I understand the most popular version is Visteon 41804. But is it the right one for my car? What’s the best way to check? I spoke to Mazda people and they gave me the Mazda part number which is GJ6E675RY. Obviously manufacture and Mazda part numbers are different..
Anyone has a clue? Cheers..

We didn't get the Mazda 6 in North America until the 2003 model year.
It is FCC: KPU41805 and model 41805 here for the correct remote.

Google shows that "Visteon 41804" is a completely different remote type:

This sounds absurd, but it worked for us to program our new Mazda 5 Keyless Entry Keyfob.
Step 7: Press the unlock button on remote twice. (This is different than other posts that say you can push any button. Our experience is that it has to be the unlock button.)
Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

I have done everything in this forum, even purchased a new remote and still nothing. Car is functioning right, I even discontected the battery for a half hour. So now my question is: could there be a problem with my antena that receives the signal? Can I replace it? And where could I find it on my 03 Mazda 6?

Both my keys stopped working at the same time. For the one I carry with me - I had noticed that it seemed to be "weaker" or I would have to hit the lock button multiple times from very close for it to work. Then it just stopped working, and my spare doesn't work either.
I have tried the 3 keyon/3 open&close door and the system responds, but nothing happens when I hit my remote button. I have tried multiple times.
Also tried the 4 keyons/4 open&close door but nothing happened. Previous posts indicated this was to see if the keyless system was working properly, which I guess it is not. So, I started looking at fuses, but there is not a fuse specifically for the keyless entry in the owner's manual. From searching around, I checked the ROOM fuse, and then the ENGINE and MIRROR fuses (all in the interior fuse panel), but they were all fine.
Is there a next step I can take to diagnose the problem?
I have tried the 3 keyon/3 open&close door and the system responds, but nothing happens when I hit my remote button. I have tried multiple times.

Hi
I ran into the same issue reported here - Keyless remote stopped working in my 2004 Mazda 6i. I followed all the steps mentioned here.
1) Open the Drivers door
2) On - off key 3 times (Tried 4 times too )
3) Open close door 3 times
4) Car responds by lock/unlocking the doors
But here when I press any key in the remote, nothing happens (Tried with Unlock button too ).
I tried the above points with a new remote as well. Nothing happens.
Can someone help me here?

Hellow dears, I have a used Mazda 6 2007 purchased 8 months before. Since the day I purchased, my keyless entry is not working. when i pressed lock/unlock button in the key, a light is blinking in it. But no response in the car. Car is getting started, it doesn't have any defect. I have replaced battery in th key also but on vain. I followed th proceedure explained here and no response anywhere after step 5. The keyless entry alarm symbol is flashing in the instt. cluster when the car is locked. Can anybody help me.

Hi, please help!
My remote will not open doors or trunk in Mazda 6 2004 wagon. Key is transmitting appropriate fequency but transmitter not receiving ? Maybe.???
also now trunk latch is stuck and will not open from outside even when all doors unlocked.
Ordered new remote and that didn't work either.
Thanks,
Mdee

When my daughter opened the passenger door handle just as I was trying to remotely open the doors, this coincidence seems to have reprogrammed my remote to automatically lock the doors when I unlock using the remote.
My Mazda does not have electronic door locks so following the reprogramming steps doesn't seem to work.
Any suggestions?
