well my friend told me that maaco is having a special on paintjobs today. He said that the presidential paintjob which is their best is on special for the rest of the month for $250 instead of 600 so im thinkin of gettin a paintjob. But i dont know what colors they have to offer. Anyone on here know? Im just sick of rolling flat black and gettin wierd looks. it especially sucks when girls look at my car in disgust.

they'll still look at u funny when the paint is peeling. there's a reason maaco is so cheap, they're cheap. yeah they might warantee the paint job, but u'll have u'r car in the shop as much as on the road. i had a buddy who had his car painted by maaco. they didn't remove his clear or rust or sand the car even before they painted it. he was back in the shop w/ flaking about 2 weeks after he got his car back.

If you opt to get the cheapest paint job maaco offers, yeah you'll get what you pay for, crap. They won't do the proper prep work, etc. However, i've heard lots of good things about them when you get their highest paint job available, and they do all the proper prep work and a high quality paint job. See, maaco is known for the cheap jobs cuz people are looking for the best deal, so they use cheaper materials where the paint and clearcoat is all in the same thing and...it just sucks i would never get that.
I was looking around at places to get a paint job but it's just too expensive. I'm going to do it at a friends soon (as soon as i finish paying what i owe my parents). I'd rather do the prep myself and then have a friend run the coats of paint, etc on it. That way i know some shop didn't cut corners or use low-quality paint on my vehicle, and it's cheaper :) So if you have a friend that knows how to do body work go that route.
But to answer your original post, if that's the best paint job they have to offer, i'd give it a try. Do you get a warranty on it? And for that price you really don't have much to lose. I'm interested to hear how this turns out :)

Let me know, I heard stuff that maaco doesnt prep or anything they just throw paint on and that's it, But this boy gary that goes to my school, hi dad has a dealership and when he gets cars his company sand, preps, prime's all the cars and and it turns oput beautiful(cuz he did the body work himself). If your gonna go with maaco(which i'll probly do to) make sure you sand your car really good, make it as smooth as you can, primer it, sand some more, prime some more til it's good, then wet sand your whole car and dont miss any spots and do it til it's perfect..Then run it to the painters and pick up your fresh car....What color you gettin it done??

You can't say this. Maaco is a franchise and the paint job depends on the painter.

No seriously he can say that. My nissan was painted by maaco. I have heard though if you do the prep work you can get a good paint job from them. But their 600 paint is still Single Stage paint, you cant pick up a base/clear job that cheap. I used to work at a shop that did Single Stage and Base/clear jobs. Depending on the type of Single Stage paint you use, Enamal or Urethane, the Enamal is cheaper than Urethane, it was like a little over 300 for Enamal, about 500 for Urethane. But you jump up to Base/Clear(the best paint job) the price goes to about 1200+. Most of the price is labor. When I paint my civic it is most likely going to just be single stage because its going to be flat black. My nissan will get base/clear. But I will do everything myself.

I got a stupid question I was thinking about painting my car there, but for the 250-500 dollar basic paint jobs does that include clear coat?? Or is it one layer of paint and send you on your way???

The advantage of a friend working at a body shop and painting cars? 300, I do the prep, we go pick up paint, and he sprays it for 300 :) Then again 300 is for just flat black paint. I was thinking of doing black with a grey pearl, but dont wanna spend a shit load of money... maybe I'll go total my car...

most likely its a Single Stage paint job, which means the paint and clear are mixed together and shot at the same time. It takes about 2-4 coats for it to come out. at any shop your going to look at spending $1k+ for a base/clear paint job, unless you know the people.

it all depends on the prep work. you do good prep work, rattles cans will stick. As far as the fading, it shouldn't be too bad.
