Beating red light/speed camera tickets

Heres how to do it-

Most, if not all, states have rules when it comes to photo-enforcement of speed and red lights. The common one is that in order for the ticket to be enforced the picture of the tag of the violator must be clear and unobstructed.

If you have a SUV, or any vehicle with a tralier hitch in the rear then run down to your local bike or sports shop and purchase a bike rack that installs into the trailer hitch. Install it. This will cause a obstruction over the license plate of the vehicle, either blocking one, or a few characters of the tag, or just be in the way when the photo is taken. This results in the violation being thrown out when they review the film.

Dont have a tralier hitch? No problem. Run down to your local bike or sports store and purchase a bike rack that straps to the trunk or rear portion of your vehicle. Install it correctly and chances are that you are obstructing your tag anyway. Police can stop you for this, but 9 times out of 10 you will not get a ticket.

To cover yourself go pick up a rusty old bike from the salvation army to put on the rack, showing a reason to have it on the car.

Total cost, about $90.00. Amount of money it will save you from red light camera and speed camera tickets $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. :bigthumb:

Or just buy the spray that is $20, and will be alot more convient if you don't want a bike rack hanging off the back.

LMAO. no thanks. Id rather pay the $300 fine, rather than having and ugly ass bike rack hanging from the back of my Mustang.

(2) Every number plate shall be kept free from dirt and obstruction and shall be affixed so that the entire number plate, including the numbers, is plainly visible at all times, and the view of the number plate shall not be obscured or obstructed by spare tires, bumper bars, any part of the vehicle, any attachments to the vehicle or the load carried. 1994, c. 27, s. 138 (7).

(3) The number plates shall not be obstructed by any device that prevents the entire number plates including the numbers from being accurately photographed using a photo-radar system. 1993, c. 31, s. 2 (5).

Agreed with post #5! I've been in a car that was hit by a prick that ran a red light, the driver of the car I was in now has to be pushed everywhere she goes. IMHO that's a big ass price for someone else to pay for you not wanting to take the time and stop. I mean I can understand if ur already about 5 feet from the line and it turns red, u can't do anything about that, but if the light is yellow and it didn't JUST turn yellow, just fucking stop will yall!

There are times when you do accidentally run a yellow/red, but to buy something just so that you can run red lights on purpose is not a good idea.

OK..There are three versions of running a red light.

#1. emergency vehicle expediting to a call for service.

#2. unsafe driving; speeding, intoxicated, driver not giving full time & attention to vehicle/roadway.

#3. 3 a.m. in the morning and there is a intersection that should be flashing yellow after say, maybe, 12 midnight, but the local or state government does nothing about it. So you can either sit at a red light and burn $2.00 a gallon gas or you can SLOW down to a reasonable speed as if the light was a flashing yellow; therefor giving you more than enought time to stop, and proceed thru the intersection.

Please do not automaticaly think that I`m speaking off blasting thru red lights, no, that is not safe.

As far as speed cameras, some states have laws that govern the visibility of a license plate specific, some dont. The speed cameras in my area are set to a stupid speed limit. Every knows that most roads are issued a speed limit that is too slow, most not all.

If the goverment or police departments want to curtial aggressive/unsafe driving then they need to properly synchronize the traffic lights on the roadways. Most of the frustration I see on the road is from folks having to slam brakes at every single intersection one-from-another. As your signal turns green the next one down in front of you turns red. What kind of crap is that.

Last but not least, you guys should check out some studies done by non-profit organizations on how local governments have decreased yellow light times when red light cameras were placed at those intersections; what you will find will not be pleasing.

I keep the bike rack and drive with out the fear of a camera somewhere snaping a picture to jam me up!

Of the three you listed, this is the only one that is LEGAL. And it's not done without risk or reason.



#2. unsafe driving; speeding, intoxicated, driver not giving full time & attention to vehicle/roadway.

These are unintentional for the most part; none of these drivers should be on the road. I believe that most would agree that by your actions, you fall into this category.

Should be flashing yellow is very different than actual flashing yellow. If you want to make lights flashing yellow, then get involved in your local government.

I agree 100% that many lights should be flashing after a certain hour. But the fact is, if your light is red, then the light on the cross street is green, and any driver on that other roadway is expecting to not have someone pull out in front of them.

What if granny forgot to put on her headlights when she's running to the all night pharmacy for her medicine? You don't see her, she hits you, it's your fault. (And of course she is at fault for not having her lights on; different discussion)

So are you suggesting that because you don't agree with the speed limit, you'll go ahead and run the reds?

Most roads are given a speed limit to match the skill of the least skilled driver or least able vehicle. Ever wonder why curves and off ramps have such a low speed posted? Trucks don't corner well, and that speed suggestion is for them. Why are highway speed limits for trucks set lower? Same reason. But there's no way to quantify the ability of each driver, other that the joke (here in the US) that is the driving test to get your license. Just because you may be able to take a corner at 2 or 3x the speed listed doesn't mean that all vehicles can, or that all drivers are able to drive at that speed safely.

Hmmm...you complained about burning up the $2 per gallon gas; do you realize that if you followed the 'stupid' speed limit and cruised through all the green lights, you'd burn much less gas than by going fast, braking for the red, then running it?

(Oh yeah, and where do you live? I want move and live where gas is ONLY $2 a gallon.)

Agreed - that traffic lights should be synchronized. The technology is there to do it, and it would save a lot of time, frustration, and fuel.

Do NOT agree with your statement that curtailing unsafe or aggressive driving can be accomplished by synchronizing lights. There are much more effective methods. People will still drive aggressively, stupidly, and too fast, even if things were changed. Example? I live on the east coast. Interstate 95 used to have a 55mph speed limit. Average speed? 65. Now the limit is 65. Actual speed? I don't know, but last weekend I was doing 75 and was getting passed by a lot of traffic.

While there are many tales of things like this, I'm curious to see if you have any information to back it up.
