just a simple question on how to launch my car. I'm takin my car to a few drag strips this summer and was just wondering how you guys launch your cars. I've heard that you hold the rpm's at the max torque and then slowly let out the clutch. i need a new clutch tho so it doesnt really work that well. I also tried to tach it at about 1500 and then dumping the clutch....tires dont squeal but takes a while to get up to power. I have no clue how much hp or torque my car has. ne help you give will be appreciated.

Another typical ricer question. "How do I race my broke ass car?" The answer is you don't. Fix the clutch then ask us again.

Well... this is what I do, not the most effective, but gets the job done. Bring it up to 2300-2500 and just dump it :smoker2:

This forum is so easy, the same reply works for every question. Mellow, learn to spell then ask the same question again. I'm sure I sound belligerent but I'm just sick of these little civics on the right side of the freeway that refuse to race. You people only pimp out your cars because you think you'll look good. Instead of blowing money on your ugly altezza lights, why don't you guys go get some balls and actually race.

Only idiots race on the freeway. And the Honda/Acura owners here aren't stupid enough to race on the freeway. We keep it on the track where it belongs.

well some people do , some people are actually in it to race. this kid wants to learn that is why he is asking US for advice. he KNOWS his car is broke but he can use what we say for further knowledge.
when you talk about civics like that, don't stereotype all of us because of some of the people out there that just wanna look pretty going slow. some people spend a lot of money on their car to go fast, those people are me included. there are plenty of people on here with " PRETTY " cars with no balls, and yes i hate it too. Just don't assume that all of us driving honda's and stuff like that only do that to our cars. IN fact i have seen in on any car you wanna talk about except exotics. I have seen ugly ass altezza's on just about every damn car , even TOYOTA. I have seen neon windshield squiters on about anything, big wheels, neons, strobes, projectors ( tegs don't count). EVERY sport compact car company has their own crowd of rice but some people DO race like YOU wish we all did.
If you have nothing decent to say about what this kid was asking why did you repsond, if it was just another one of those questions you see all the time? If you don't like what someone asks then don't respond. He asked something that had to DO with RACING and you turned around and made a comment on his broke car. Did he say he was racing tomorrow? NO he didn't, he just wanted to know.

92Toyota Since your clearly not smart enough to work out the Private message function, Im going to have to say this publicly.
You have now made 4 posts since joining, and all but one of them has been filled with misinformed ignorance, and a negative attitude towards other members. This is your one chance to stop doing it.
If I see another post along the same lines you will be banned.
If you would like to discuss it further Im on AIM (moppienz), or you can private message me.

What would be really funny, is if you pulled up to Moppie on a freeway. His grocery getter would hand you your ass!
Too bad that couldn't happen since, Moppie is all the way over in NZ.

and I would charge him 10c for the grocery bag I handed it back in.

We get a lot of 20V Truneo's and Corrollas here from Japan, and THEY all want to race. They all have loud ugly exhasuts and they are loud and slow! Even with a mate in the car who weighs over 140kgs, (thats twice the weight of the average 20v driver) I walked all over them. :smoker2:
OK, a quick lesson in launching. (since this turned into a lynch the lynch the toyota thread).
There are two ways of doing it.
Floor it, then side step off the clutch. Lots of tyre smoke, good way to break parts, bad for clutch, g/box diff etc.
Works well for low hp cars, e.g. Corrollas and DX civics.
Or, find the peak torque for the engine, this takes practice, and slip the clutch out in a controlled mannor. Takes practice to work out the right amount of wheel spin and clutch to allow for maximum launch.
Bad for clutch, but easier on gearbox diff etc.

I was getting consistent 2.2 60' times with this method... heat up the tires some (spin them up to the line), hold rev's at around 4000RPM, dump clutch just before the green light. No wheel-spin, just a quick jump until second gear, ride that 'till 7200 then slam it in third and light a smoke while cruising through the traps at 88.9mph. It helped that I had some sticky tires (Bridgestone Potenza SO3 PP's) up front and I could launch hard without losing traction, I was beating a lot of cars that had slicks, fun fun fun :)

When i Launch my car... I hold down my the power to about half way (i'm guessing about 4000 rpm, i have no tachometer). I then just release the clutch rapidly, just enought that my tyres give a little squeal, but grip. I then floor it (obviously), and hold in a gear till its just about to top out and then of course change.
This ways worked well for me so far, and i've managed too beat my cars offical stats 9.6s to 100, i've got it down to about 9s.

call me a moron but i almost like to bog it out so there is no wheel spin, the damn thing revs up so high anyways. i put it at 2100-2400 and dump it, it hits vtec a second later and shift it at 8500. i know i should really sit there and try to find a way to get the car at it's peak potential, but this method is gettin the job done.

this also works for street-tired cars. if you do this on slicks and you have a high power car with a strong clutch... say bye bye to your axles, gearbox, etc, etc...
something has to give and you want it to be either the tires or the clutch.... or both

this is my preferred method, but as most of my launches are at autocross, absolute acceleration is not required as usually there is a corner immediately after the starting light (or a short distance)
generally when i autocross i rev my integra up to ~3500-4000rpm and slip the clutch.. its not TOO hard on the clutch.. 11 autocross events and 45k miles later my clutch is still fine
