Too good to be true?

I am 16 and I'm looking for cars. While I was looking one day on autotrader I found this.

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=177394435&dealer_id=55889231&car_year=2004&make=BMW&distance=0&lang=en&max_price=10000&model=&end_year=2006&min_price=1&certified=&address=33912&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=2004&isp=y&cardist=2467#vdptop

Too good to be true huh. What's the deal with it? That's at least $20,000 under retail value. Is it fake or is it really just someone that is old or stupid and selling it for cheap?

Nothing appears to be wrong at all, and plus he says its fine. I mean I know people can lie, I am just hoping to get something too good to be true.

SCAM!!!!!!!!
it's been happening a lot especially with Supra's Rx-7s and other high end jap cars, usually the seller wants you to pay him through some sleazy looking escrow service, or send them the deposit of like 1k and you never hear from them again, most are overseas and some say they will ship the car but only way you should buy a car is if you can take it for a test drive first.

I don't buy anything I can't kick ... so I would not be buying a $10000.00 car off the net. Besides what makes you think that you are buying THAT car. Could be a picture from who knows where, just to get some sucker to bite. Sorry buddy, but it smells real fishy and there are a lot of crooks out there.

Sounds like your probably right, I emailed him sounding intrested and he said he was in Greece. Heres the conversation.

"Hello. Thank you for your interest in my 2004 BMW 325Ci Coupe.
It's Saphire Black with Black Leather interior, showroom condition in and out. The car was never smoked in and it's been well maintained. Serviced at BMW regulary.
18500 accurate miles, I am asking $7200US for this car.
I am in Greece and I have the car with me. Shipping will be handled with Lufthansa Cargo Air and you will have to cover $600US for shipping anywhere in the US. You will receive the car in about 5 business days. Will be delivered with it's clear US title, warranty, full documentation and car keys.
The total price you have to pay for the car is $7800US plus 4% wire transfer fee, so, $8112US.
Send me your name and address so I can get prepared if you want to move forward.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Aaron Steven"

I just realized that I gave you a different link, here is the link for the above car. http://cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=22&paId=164485078&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=YEAR+descending%2CPRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&recnum=0&leadExists=true&criteria=K-%7CE-ANY%7CM-_5_%7CB-10000%7CH-%7CD-_31_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-YEAR+descending%2CPRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CX-popular%7CZ-33912&aff=national

I just wish things were that good, *sigh*

$600 to fly the car and then have it shipped to you? This has got to be a scam. It costs more to transport a vehicle across this country than what he says to you. I have gotten quotes from shipping companies pursuant to this for vehicles I see on eBay to have them shipped to me and most quotes are higher than this. Plus he didn't mention any costs for customs charges to bring it into this country.

Textbook scam.

And you're 16, why are you looking at $10,000 BMWs?

The link doesn't work anymore, but take this as a guideline: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".
It applies to buying cars, stock market, girls  ...

One thing you can do when you see such an ad is trying to find a AF member from the country of the seller and ask him for his help. He may know the seller or his reputation or, who knows, live near enough to the seller to take a look at the car.

I follow my parents philosophy. Never look at a car unless it can be seen with its official documentation and test-driven in person.
