which synthetic oil from amsoil should i use for my 2004 crown vic. i want this car to last a very very very very long time and i just need to know from people who know what they are talking about which is why im posting in this forum. someone told me to use series 2000 0w-30 synthetic oil but ive also heard 5w-20 (what ford calls for) and 5w-30 are also good. which one would be the best. this car is going to have to do alot of stop and go driving, long drives in the summer. i guess im babying it too much but this is the first good car weve ever owned.

If you live in a warmer climate, I would use the 5W-30 weight oils. I also own a CV (have had two) and use Amsoil "ASL 5w-30" oil exclusively in every vehicle I own. The filter for your car is an Amsoil "SDF 11".

thanks but i have to order the oil from their online store because none of the places ive been to in this part of va carry it. i was also wondering what i should look out for when i buy this car. it has 17,000 miles on it but just in case is there any noises i should be aware of or any thing ? ive read a couple of reviews and the 2004 crown vic sounds pretty solid but i just want to make sure every thing is ok.

i was also wondering how often you changed your oil with asl 5w-30 oil and how many quarts it would take.

6Qts, I change it every year, need it or not. The "older" car has over 250,000 on it now, NEVER any engine work, the "newer" one has about 130,000, same, no engine work.

Mobil 1 is just as good and easier to get. Motorcraft filters are also just as good. If you really want it to last a long time, install a bypass oil filtration system, replace the filters every 5000 miles and take an oil sample, send it off to Blackstone and get your oil tested.

I have an F350 Powerstrok that I would not even think of running synthetics in since it would be a waste of money, but I do get the blackstones done every oil change. I run Rotella 15W40 and motorcraft filters, I can easily run 9000 miles and get back a low wear report, in fact there is very little difference between a normal 5000 mile change and the 9000 mile change other than an increase of iron, which is expected due to the lack of a good filtration system.

Not to start a flame or oil war, but oil type is meaningless without a good filtration system, even a good dino can perform well. If you want to run Amsoil, that is fine, but if its a PITA to get, Mobil one is just as good and much easier to obtain. Most important, look for a good bypass filtration system, you wont regret it.

yea im still under warranty and i did alot of investigating about this amsoil business. i really really dont trust it one bit. from what ive heard their additive package isnt too dependable and after a couple of thousand miles the stuff turns to sludge sometimes. i hope im wrong but just to be safe i decided to go with mobil 1 5w-30. its supposed to be 5w-20 but i dont trust that stuff either its just better for fuel economy according to ford and they said i wouldnt be voiding warranty going with a 5w-30 mobil 1 synthetic. im going to get a motorcraft filter though.
