Hi,
I just bought a 92 honda accord - automatic. I've never owned a honda before so i was wondering what the RPMs normally run at at high speeds because even when I'm driving at 100-120km/h the rpm is at around 3. It seems like it should down shift but it won't. Am I worried about nothing and could this be a sign of a problem. Thanks.

My friend has the same car and that's where the RPM's run at those speeds too. At those speeds, he's usually right around 3000 RPM. It's a small displacement engine, so it's common for it to have to spin much higher then a normal one in order to generate sufficient power. Keep in mind that that car is also geared kind of high, so it'll spin higher.

Is it a 3speed? My brothers topaz is 3 speed and it sounds like it could blow apart at 3000rpms on the highway. His car is 3200rpms at 100kmh , at 120 its at 3600rpms. So if it is a 3speed I wouldnt feel bad those are decent numbers. 4cyl's tend to rev high anyway.

first of all this is for detailing. secound, I have an 88 honda 5 speed manual Prelude si 4WS. And it runs at 4,000 rpm just to hit 90mph rougly 150km. And at 65 mph, roughly 100km, iit runs at about 3,000. THats normal for hondas.
