Ok, heres the deal, I put new belts on about 4 days ago for my crankshaft pulley....AC and Alternator I believe....I was wiring my gauges yesterday and i started my car....I think the host rubbed against one and now they squeal after the car warms up. I was working on the car with my hood up for a few hours but this morning it did it again. Anyone have any ideas why my belts are doing this besides the hose and how can I fix it?

Are you sure that you have the belts tightened enough? You could use some belt dressing, but I have never had good luck with that stuff.

maybe you overtightened them. for tightness on my belts i like to be able to grab them between the crank and ac compressor and be able to turn it a little over 90 degrees. that usually works very well for me.

I made sure i check by checking a different belt tightness and did the same to the 2 i put in, is this a likely problem though for it to happen like 3 days later??

Hey besides checking your belts tension check the bolts that hold the alternator and power steering pump on. my used (by someone who didnt care) 95 when i got it was missing a bolt on each which caused it to make a horrible squeal and tear apart belts or just throw them off.

Those are tightened also, after the car warms up its fine but when i pop the hood after their squealing it smells like burnt rubber....not strong but i can smell it a little bit

does anyone think it would have to do with something maybe touching the belts while the car was running??

what type of belts did you put on?
i had gatorbacks on mine when i did the timing and it squealed like a bitch. it wasn't the tension either because i adjusted it a million times. i changed the belts to oem and it stopped squealing right after.

I also have a problem with squealing belts. Not really much you can do, as I have found out. Don't use belt dressing, it makes it worse. Just keep trying to get the right tightness, experiment a little. Mostly happened right after it rained or there was a lot of moisture in the air. Shouldn't hurt the belt, as far as I know. Let me know if you find something that works good.
