I am a minor and received a 22348b infraction for going exactly 100 in CA (SF Bay Area). I think I reached 95 or 98, not 100. This is my first ticket ever. I am a 4.2 GPA 17 year old student. What should I do? Is traffic school possible for this? Do I need a lawyer? Should I fight the ticket or plead to the judge for a reduced sentence? Help!!

Well the fact that you were doing 95 or 98 is irrelevant at those speeds. You got caught, you got a ticket. Being so young, the ticket will really hurt you. Here in NY, you would lose your license, but I don't know the way everything goes in CA.
First off, you have a few options, and you should probably wait until someone from CA gives you advice before you chose.
1. In some states they have an online defensive driving course that will lower the ticket
2. In NY and PA, you meet with the Assistant DA or the cop who pulled you over and you can try and cut a plea bargain with them prior to the trial. They usually will reduce it, to get you to plead guilty and just pay the thing and not waste the court's time.
3. A lawyer in your situation might be a good thing, as this ticket will screw you financially with insurance...if they even let you keep your license.
4. www.beatmyspeedingticket.com It has lots of good info, and advice, it also has a $30 book, that might be worth getting. I have heard good things about it, but I've also heard that it isn't necessarily the easist thing to use in court...so that really is up to you.
As I said, I don't know anything about Cali law, so I don't know which of these would work best for you. Or how your court proceedings go, so you may want to wait for more advice from someone from CA.

The first thing to do is to tell your parents. This is a mandatory court appearance and one of them or an attorney will have to appear with you.
Traffic school is not an option.
This speeding ticket will drastically increase your insurance premiums for the next three years. Money spent now on an attorney makes very good sense. If you parents don't know one then send me an email and I can provide some resources.

tip: don't do that anymore. 5 to 10 mph over the limit if you're in a hurry is bad enough, there's never a legit reason to go 100.

There's never a good reason, excuse, whatever to speed and put other motorists lives in danger.

I would have to say that going 5-10 over is not quite putting peoples lives in danger. Sure it is against the law, but I doubt the extra 5mph is gonna kill someone.
