Well my lil buddy of mine decided to sell his hatch and purchase a 1962 vw bug.... for 3500 that was "said" might I remind you "said" to have ran 13 seconds, with only 800 miles on the engine with no receipts or paper to prove it..... i think this is utterly stupid considering he is 16...... not only should a 16 year old kid NOT be driving a daily driven 13 second car if in fact it is..... This car just wouldnt be a wise choice for a younger kid....I told him all the disadvantages of this car, finding parts workin on it, the labor cost for someone to work on it,gas money, and basic up keep on this car but he is just so set on this ride.... BLAH any suggestions on how to sway his ignorance and bring him back to the honda side.... i have nothing against bugs, its just ive helped my uncle rebuild and upkeep his 62 and it is a BITCH. Its just not a good car for a highschooler with limited funds to have....Am I wrong? Let me know what ya think.........

i kinda disagree. we have a '68 Type 3 Squareback. if i can find parts for that, i KNOW you can find parts for the bug. those cars are so old there is a stong replica parts market, stock and aftermarket. and they are cheap compared to our honda parts.
it is very true a bug can nickle and dime you. but that is if you don't do it right. it has to be built right from the start. it is very true that car could pull 8's if it has a SCAT engine. which according to jer, SCAT to VW is like Mugen to Honda.
when i met jer he was all up in the air cooled vw. he called it "poor man's honda" because it was much cheaper to build and mod.
thats it.....i'm going to get CZ-R.... :uhoh:

I was just waitin' for ya Ami! If I didn't have the Civic & was looking for a project car, it would be a Bug or Squareback. They're easy to find, extremely easy to work on, and probably the best car you could start with if you're wanting to learn. Plus they're light as hell, RWD, get awesome gas mileage, etc...!
Not to mention they're cheap! I've had a number of friends over the years that have had Bug's & they could SMOKE my Civic (which isn't saying much at the moment ) - and they only spent a couple hundred bucks (if that).
Another bonus is that, if you're into car audio, the Bug has a really good interior shape for SPL.
I could go on for days...
