Audi 1.8T vs Panda... and again... and again...

Wow, I've never actually had to 'defend' myself on the freeway.

I was cruising along at 70ish in the slow lane. It's what I do... I cruise. When I notice a red Honda Civic Si roll past in the lane over. He had exhaust and wheels. Ehh, maybe next time I'll dick with him.

My focus still on him, contimplating whether or not to pursue him.. When out of nowhere... well he came from somewhere, but it's more dramatic when you say OUT OF NOWHERE! this Audi slides next to me and gives me a BOV at my door.

The Fuck? Somebody... Challenging me??? Now that's a first. "Oh, the hell no, you just did not give me a BOV to the face!" I said to myself and rolled on the gas in 5th gear. To let him know I'm very game.

He follows me as I make my way over to the fast lanes. He gets on my left and tries to pass me. I drop to 4th and leave him. I put 2 car lenghts easily on him and let off.

Ok, I'm done. I proved my point. You came to me for a race, I gave it to you, and you lost. Go away now.

He BOV's me again. Drop to 4th again and leave him once more, upshift to 5th gear and let off at 110mph.

I start to slow down and pop over into another lane to let him pass. He gets ahead of me... a car is in my lane so I come in behind him and when there's enough room he hits it again, I drop back to 4th gear and mash the gas and I pull from half a car length behind him out and around him then proceed to put on a good bus length and let off at again 110mph.

Pulls up next to me again and gives me oonce more a BOV to the face. BLAH!!! 4th gear, let off at 110mph.

Go away now! I win!

Finally He got the picture... and we exchanged thumbs ups... It didn't sound like a 1.8T, sounded like a six cylinder from the exhaust. he had his emblems shaved, so I'm not sure what it was. I'm assuming it was a 1.8T. It moved pretty good for what it was... but obviously it didn't move fast enough.

Fun times.

Haha. This guy I know knows a guy from work who has a VW GTI with a chip, exhaust, and like..an intake or something and he thinks he slaughters mustangs. He wants to race me for money. But, sounds like a fun race. He was quite persistent it seems.

I don't get why people do that. Keep coming back for more, once you've proved you're faster.

"hmmm maybe this time he'll be slow!!haha ......oh...nope... still fast.... shit."

Well..sometimes it's just to see a nicer/faster car accelerate.

Could of very well been an A6. Who knows, maybe you took on an RS-6  . Either way, good kill. Atleast he tried. You should be glad someone tried to challenge you for once. L8...

True... it was fun. But after the 4th try. I was getting tired of it.... ok that's a lie. :)

Well, you have to give him an A for effort!

I think sometimes, people "believe" that they screwed up, or somehow you got an unfair jump on them, and try to "prove" to themselves that they really can beat ya, lol.

well redneck you shoulda blow off valve him right in the face back. lolz

anyways i don't care how bad you had to fuck up, but you are not goin to lose a bus lenght from a mistake. lolz.

Notice the quotes around believe and prove?????

lol. I know that. You know that. Most people with any race experience (track or street) knows that. But there is always that one guy who doesn't.

true that, of course we never think like the people so its very hard to put ourselves in their mindset.

And you sure can't explain things like this to people that don't know either. They either just won't listen, or are dead set on what they "think" to be the truth.

Bracket racing is the hardest thing to get people to understand.

i would know, my professor races bracket in pro stock.

you have to call the humidity, and everything to predict what your goin to run. people lose by thousandths of a sec. in his class everyone uses a throttlestop to give them room to play with the throttle if the guy next to him looks like they're goin to break out. or visa versa.

very very tough section in drag racing.

You're not kidding! And sorry Red for sort of hi-jacking your thread here, lol.

I run bracket 1, which is the top bracket class at the local track I go to. Some tracks call it Top ET. Anyways, I can run anything electronic excpet for a track counter. So I use a delay box, trans. brake, 3-step rev limiter, line lock, and electric shift.

I've lost a couple times by .001. The most memorable was a break out on my part. I had dialed like 4.44 (330 ft. race distance-i know, odd distance but its all the track has room for, and its like 35 minutes from home, cheaper to get in ($40), and pays nearly as much as the "big"-1/8ths-2.5 hours away ($1000)), had cut a .513 RT, the other guy cut a .527 (.500 is perfect at this track), and I ran a 4.439 on a 4.44 to his 3.981 on a 3.95. It was heart breaking to say the least! Had I won, I would have been in the final round in just my 4th weekend of driving.

Anyways, I could have lifted now that I look back (and probably would now since I have a little more experience), but when you are only running 330 ft, and the other car is probably going 95 mph to your 85 mph, if you lift, they will shake you when the go around ya. And I'd rather get beat breaking out then to lift and let someone beat you becuase you let up!

BTW, that's cool that your professor bracket races. I wish I had one that did.

ha i got to a 4 year college with a automotive engineering program. my professor is a genius. he made his own dyno at his garage by using hte water brake, and the water was sourced from his kitchen sink, and from old junk pipes.

the most heart braking story my professor had was when called a 10.000 i believe, and he ran a 9.999 and he broke out. his son was screaming down the track tellin him to let off. but he couldn't hear it. lolz

he also told me its pretty funny to see someone break at the starting line, and the other just runs and didn't notice the guy broke down, and the ended up breaking out, and losing the race when the other guy never even left the starting line. hah

I've never did that (yet, lol) but have seen it happen many times! It's happened to my uncle (this was his car originally, he drove it probably for 7 years or more) a couple times.

Lol. Its really easy to say let up when your standing in the staging area or in the bleachers/fence (I know, I've done it several times), but its a whole 'nother game when you're setting in the driver's seat!

I'll tell you another thing that is really simple to do, and I'm sure your professor has done it his fair share of tiems too--Red Light!

I've never redded .499, but I have redded .497, and let me tell ya, it hurst just as much!

hahah he told me he redlighted really close too. i forgot by how much, but hes a pretty old guy. ( in the mid 50's ) hes been hot rodding even before he served in the army when he was 18. really cool guy ( doesn't teach much though, he just talks about hot rodding like bill jenken's, or barry grant, or holley blue fuel pumps. lolz its from him that i get most of my knowledge about american cars. his best run to date with the throttle stop off was a 8.7 i believe at 167mph, with a 1.3 sec 60'. he has 4 cars. he has a dragster ( engine in the back with skinnies up front ), he has a cuda, a old open top hot rod, and a T-bird with a mopar engine in it. hes a hugh mopar fan.

sorry red, me and chevytrucker will stop. we've hi jacked this thread waaay too much. sorry.
