Hi all. I have a 99 Grand Am GT 3.4 and I need to change the fuel filter. I have already bought one, but I don't know where it goes. I've looked everywhere but I can't seem to find where it is located.

I have an 01 and it's probably in the same spot. I remember mine was a bitch to find too. It's not up near in the front in the fuel line, where you think it should be. If I remember right, it's tucked way up in between the tank and something else. I don't remember quite exactly though. I think it might've been between the tank and the rear linkage or something. I just ended up sliding around really slowly back and forth under the back end with a trouble light until I found it.

Good luck.

BTW, I dug up this link out of My Favorites - it shows you how to change it. just in case you didn't know. cept the filter isn't where it shows it in pic.

The fuel filter on my 96 GAGT is located behind the fuel tank, and I need a special tool to release the filter from the fuel line. Good Luck!

ayep, fuel filter is "located near the rear of the vehicle, forward or rearward of the fuel tank, depending on application". Two ways to remove the lines, one requires a tool to release the plastic tabs at the line where it connects to the filter. The other uses16mm and 20mm wrenches to undo the fitting nuts. Only way ya'll know is visual inspect of the lines at the filter, once you do locate it.

Also, manual recommends replace the O-rings at line/filter connect. I recommend be very careful, as the line is pressurized always, so once ya loosen the line gas will spray. use eye protection, wrap a rag or two around the fitting to trap the gas as ya lossen it, loosen SLOW, let the line de-pressure gradually.
