Seat Belt Problems

Not like this is a big deal or anything, but I was wondering if anyone knew which parts I would have to replace in order to have my seatbelt work like new... Currently you kinda have to feed it back onto the roll, if u get what i mean. Can I just replace a spring or something? Do I need to readjust or replace some piece?

I don't remember where I read this, but if you do a search, something might come up. They said that it wasn't a part that needed to be replaced, but that some type of finish had worn off the actual seatbelt. They said if you sprayed it with some type of spray can, that it would solve the problem.

i think cleaning it with soapy water works to. As for replacing parts in the retracter i don't recommend it. Even at the dealership we don't service the belts we just replace them as a unit. Besides god forbid you open up the unit and it fails when you need it to work .

I've found the retractor mechanism gets full of crud, carpet fibers, hair, dust, and it likes to stick to the grease used in assembly, making them really sluggish or inop. If you take the cover off, and use WD-40 or brake cleaner to flush the crud away, then lube with some litium grease, they start working again.

If you do this, pull the belt all the way out first, and make sure you clean the spool before letting it reel the belt in, or you'll have a greasy belt laying across you.
